60 people died, Cloudilyn Basilio reporting.

HEADLINE STINGER

NTL REPORTER 1: Heavy rain induced by Typhoon Ising spelled disaster for residents of
Cherry Hills Subdivision in Antipolo City, when the ground beneath them
broke apart and silde down the mountain.

Houses went down along with the landslide, while those living down the
slope were buried in mud and concrete. A total of 60 people died.

University of the Philippines Geologists who looked into the disaster

argued that while heavy rains may have set off the landslide, certain
geological traits of the area where the subdivision stood made it
vulnerable.

NTL REPORTER 2: Usman triggers landslides in Bicol and Visayas Regions Tropical
depression Usman, which weakened into a low pressure system before
leaving the Philippines, brought heavy rain that triggered landslides and
flooding in Bicol and eastern Visayas regions in January 02, 2019.

Bicol, was the hardest hit, with 68 people were killed in intense rains and
landslides. Damage to agriculture was estimated P342 million. The
casualties, were mostly killed when their homes collapsed in landslides
after days of heavy rain in several provinces, said Ricardo Jalad, executive
director of the national disaster agency.

Officials put three provinces under a "state of calamity" to give them

access to emergency funds. Tropical cyclones hit the Philippines every
year, with destroyed crops and infrastructure taking a toll on human lives
and weighing down one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.

NTL REPORTER 3: Three people were killed when their house was hit by a landslide in this
city early Saturday morning, December 29. City officials identified the
victims as Marco Alegre,3; Mia Loreto,20; and Mauro Alegre,26.

Mayor Rosal said that there were 13 family members in the house the ten
others survived with slight injuries. The house is located in Barangay
Francisco, 25 km from the city proper.

Because of the heavy rains in the area brought by the typhoon Usman
softened the ground, causing the landslide. On Friday, Rosal had advised

Though the typhoon weakened more rains are still expected, according

INTL REPORTER 2: There are remaining 120 people have been buried alive on a massive
landslide in a mountainous village located in southwestern china. This
deadly landslide happen last june,24 2017. Local state media reported an
initial figure of 141 missing individuals but it revised down to 120 missing
people with 5 confirmed deaths.

The landslide buried a small village on the minjian river after unusually
heavy rains caused the entire mountainside to collapse and flow downhill
through the village and into the minjian river.

The landslide is estimated to have swept 106 million cubic feet of rock
and sediment downhill.

There are ongoing rescue efforts of over 500 individuals working to find

produced local flooding.

Heavy rains in this area are seasonally common, which intensifies the risk
