CHAPTER 2

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This Chapter includes different local and foreign literature and

studies that have direct support to the research study. This particular

research study gives the gist of the relevant readings done by researcher,

which related to the present research study. The foreign and local

literature and studies would serve as a guide and support in the

interpretation and analysis of the data gathered.

Foreign Literature

In the Article “Internet authentication and billing (hotspot) system

using MikroTik Router Operating System” by Adam Mohammed

published online on June 30, 2013, stated that MikroTik Router

Operating System (OS) to build an authentication and billing System. It

is used to restrict usage and bandwidth allocations to users. A case

study of Federal University of Technology, Minna website was considered

and it was found that additional stages and radius server services should

be incorporated with the antenna design in its hotspot server.

This article is related to the present study because the researchers

believe that Mikrotik is a very useful tool to solve problems in the

bandwidth allocation.
 In April 07 2018 wrote an article entitled Network management

using mikrotik where stated that MikroTik is a very low cost router which

may suitable for small network. MikroTik can access through winbox. As

a result MikroTik Router OS can be managed easily. MikroTik also

featured filter rules, layer 7 protocols, bandwidth shaping etc. to provide

enough security for the network. MikroTik can provide strong wireless

access point and web proxy server management.

This article is related to the present study because the researchers

believe that Mikrotik is a very useful tool and low cost router that can

help the current study.

In December 2016, Muhammad Donni Lesmana Siahaan wrote an

article entitled “MikroTik Bandwidth Management to Gain the Users

Prosperity Prevalent” where stated that It can be concluded that the use

MikroTik in managing network traffic gains the user prosperity prevalent.

Each user can use quotas effectively and efficiently. Hardware

requirements are required for installation Mikrotik program is not too

high when compared with providing one computer for managing the

network. Mikrotik manage bandwidth use can increase the functional

distribution of bandwidth to the clients in order to be more equitable

distribution of bandwidth. All computers can use the internet with a

time. All the parts of the computer unit gain bandwidth according to

needs that have been determined. The Administrator shall have the

easier job in controlling the bandwidth of not using MikroTik.“

This article is related to the present study because the researchers

believe that Mikrotik is a very useful tool to solve the bandwidth needs of

its users.

In the article “ISP Server Configuration and Maintenance on

Mikrotik and Linux Platform” by Abdul Awal Chowdhury on December

1,2018 it was stated “MikroTik is a network operating system which is

widely used by Internet Service Providers for the purpose of a firewall or

network router. MikroTik is one of the very popular platforms in

Bangladesh. I can do almost everything using MikroTik including router

static connection, DHCP connection, site block, Bandwidth Management,

Routing, Hotspot, PPPoE, DNS server, DHCP server and many other

features.”

This article is related to the present study because the researchers

believe that Mikrotik is a very useful tool to solve the problem their

problem in their network and many more.

System Menggunakan Mikrotik OS 2.9.27” written by Fatsyahrina F, and

Dodi Prasetyo U. Published on April 2014 At present, internet access

not only performed using a personal computer (PC) or a laptop, but can

use other mobile devices with ease, including tablets, iPhone, and

smartphones. More and more devices to access the internet, the greater

the bandwidth required. But it turns out that happened on the field at

any bandwidth that could have gone only used by multiple devices. This

is because there are no restrictions or bandwidth settings for each user.

This research seeks to implement bandwidth management using simple

queue and queue trees and implementing a firewall system using mangle

and filter rules. This study uses the OS Mikrotik 2.9.27 as a router. The

results of this study can be proved that by using MikroTik router OS

2.9.27 can be generated that serves as a limiter device and a firewall

system, using a firewall filter rules and coupled with the layer 7 protocols

can be made a router that serves as a barrier to access some sites

desired, and using the limiter firewall mangle and queue trees can be

distinguished browsing and downloading speeds.

This article is related to the present study because it can give

assurance that using Mikrotik routers the researchers can set a

restriction to the websites that can visited by the users. .

In the article, “Local Area Network Wired and Wireless Simulator”

issue of Philippine E-Journals stated that “This type of networking will

let the users choose a computer laboratory that will send the data to the

target PC. The system has the different types of topologies which are bus,

ring, and star. It also has the wireless network. With this new user-

friendly simulation, it is possible to connect to the PC Hub. With the help

of this system, user can network the computer in a short period of time.

A computer network is nothing but a connection of two or more

computers by a wire (physical cable) or by a wireless connection to

exchange information. The two types of network that can be developed in

home are wireless network and traditional wired network (Ethernet).

With regards the problems of the students in the ground of networking

and connecting to the computer, the study can help the students of Our

Lady of Fatima University Lagro in networking.”

In the relation to the present study, the researchers believe that

the used of wired and wireless network is helpful in solving problem in

connecting to the internet.

Local Studies

According to study of Neil Christian S. Dichoso, Alfred Adler G.

Agapito, Andrei Rommel L. Alemania, Lawrence E. Matulac and Edison

“Improvement of Network Connection at the City Hall of Cabuyao” stated

that to improve the network connection at the City Hall of Cabuyao they

came up with the solution network interconnection through wired

connection using Cat6 with considerations of its reliability, speed and

cost.

The study is relevant to then to the present study for it has given

information about the using of wired connection.

According to study of Julie Ann G. Acosta, Aishel Larissa V.

Concio, Mary Rose A. Silaya, Joanna Marie M. Baroro published on 2015

issue of Letran Calamba Research Report entitled “Improvement of the

existing Wireless Internet Connection in Colegio De San Juan Letran

Calamba” stated that “This study showed that using PLDT's Metro

Ethernet Wide Area Network, Bandwidth on Demand, and Long Term

Evolution would make the wireless Internet connection in the Colegio

faster even at high demand of usage and able to reach any part in the

Colegio.”

In the relation to the present study, the researchers believe that

the Wireless internet increase the workload performance of its user.
