A TASK-BASED LESSON PLAN IN LISTENING, SPEAKING, AND GRAMMAR
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. give compliments and respond to it;
b. know the different structure of adjective phrases;
c. use adjective phrases correctly;
d. use adjective phrases in complimenting;
e. Identify adjective phrases; and
f. use the topic in describing something.

III. Procedure
a. Pre-listening
i. Ask the students to form a circle, and give each student a strip of
paper.
ii. They will perform the activity “The Compliment project” and the
teacher will explain this activity.
b. While listening
i. Extensive listening
1. After the activity, ask 3-5 students to share what was written
on their strip and ask them how they feel when they receive
those good things about them.

ii. Pre-set task/questions


1. The teacher will distribute the worksheets and explain to
them what are they going to do with it.

iii. Intensive listening


1. Let the students listen to the audio for two times
a. They will first listen to the listening passage without
doing anything, then they will answer the worksheet
while listening to the passage for the second time.

iv. Checking of Answers


1. After answering, let the students exchange their worksheets
with their seatmate and call a student every item to answer
orally.
2. Ask questions about the passage.

c. Post listening

a. Have the students look into the worksheets and have
the students observe the bold/italicized words in the
tape script

Adjective Phrase
Form.
 adjective phrase is formed out of either an
intensifier and an adjective, or alternatively
o very fashionable
o great job
o too difficult

Prepositional phrases, participial phrases, and


infinitive phrases can all function as adjective phrases in a
sentence.
 Prepositional phrase example:
o The house across the street is my
grandmother’s.
o I have a scratch on my arm.

 Participial Phrase Examples:


o Strolling along the garden path, we
admired the flowers and butterflies.
o Waltzing across the floor, the dancers
mesmerized the partygoers.

 Infinitive Phrases
o Mysteries are excellent books to read on
stormy nights.
o Wool is the best material to wear in cold
weather.
Meaning.
 This type of phrase is actually a group of words
that serves to describe a noun or pronoun in a
sentence, thus functioning as an adjective.
Use.
 some adjective phrases modify nouns or noun
phrases.

Example: The very small kitten jumped at the big


dog.

 Other adjectives phrases modify the predicate of


the sentence.
o The brownies smell deliciously sweet.
 Adjective phrases can also modify objects and
will follow the word they are modifying.
o They were proud of their team winning the
championship.

1. Have the students look at the underlined words in the tape
script, present these words on the board and explain its
definition and how to pronounce it.

1. Divide the class into 4 and given some situations they will
have a to present with the use of adjective phrases
Group 1: A reality show
Group 2: A cooking show
Group 3: A mini drama
Group 4: In an office environment
iii. Planning
1. Give students 7-10 mins to prepare.

iv. Report/Presentation
1. Have the students present.

VI. Assignment
a. The students are given an individual project that to be submit in the last
week of the month. They are to take a photo of their favorite place in their
town and below this photo is the reason why they like this place. They will
state their reason with the use of adjectives describing the place.
