+ BX + C, Is An Example of A Polynomial Function

A function is a relation between two sets of elements where each element in the first set corresponds to exactly one element in the second set. The domain is the set of x values and the range is the set of y values. To evaluate a function, substitute values for x into the given function to find the corresponding y value. Types of functions include polynomial functions like linear and quadratic functions, constant functions where y is always the same value, rational functions as a ratio of polynomials, exponential functions where y is x raised to a power, and logarithmic functions which are inverses of exponential functions.

FUNCTION – It’s a type of relation between two sets of elements in which for each element in the first set

there corresponds one and only one element in the second set.
DOMAIN – the set of x values which corresponds to the second set of elements.
COLLINEAR LINE – points lying in one line.
RANGE – the set of y values which corresponds to the first set of elements.
EVALUATION OF FUNCTION - Assigning values for x then substitute it to the given function to identify the
corresponding value for y.
VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL LINE TEST – a test that can verify if the graph is function or not.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF FUNCTIONS
1. POLYNOMIAL FUNCTION
a) LINEAR FUNCTION – It is defined by f(x) = mx +b containing the first degree which shows straight
line on its graph.
b) QUADRATIC FUNCTION – it is defined by f(x) = ax2 + bx + c, is an example of a polynomial function
in the second degree whose graph is a parabola.
2. CONSTANT FUNCTION – Is a function for each x value corresponds to one and only one y value, f(x)
= c where c ϵ R
𝑔(𝑥)
3. RATIONAL FUNCTION – is defined by the equation 𝑓(𝑥) = where g(x) and h(x) are both
ℎ(𝑥)
polynomial function.
4. EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION – is defined by the equation f(x) = ax where a≥ 0 and a≠1
5. LOGARITHMIC FUNCTION – it is an inverse of exponential function and is defined by the equation
f(x) = logax where a≥0 and a≠1.
