web view copy of 6th semester.
My reporting time was 10:30, and when I reached there, I was asked to verify
documents and then wait for my turn to be called in for Technical Interview. My
turn came around 2 pm. The interview was conducted in a vast library with several
panels sitting at different tables.
My Interviewer’s panel consisted of 2 middle-aged men (let’s call them Int1 and
Int2). After the initial greetings, the conversation was as follows:
Int1 (glances over my resume for 2-3 seconds): So, tell me about yourself.
Int1: So, tell me if you’re developing a system, how would you ensure its safety?
Me: We can ensure the system's safety by maintaining data integrity for the input
of the system and making sure that the relations between attributes are not
complicated.
Me: data integration is making sure that the input data of the system is of the same
data type.
Me: yes, sir, but I can’t recall the exact definition right now.
Me: data atomicity is making no. of operations on data into a single unit such that
either all the transactions are performed or none of them (after that I gave an
example about it)
Int2 (hand over a paper to me initially asking me to code for palindrome numbers
but changes the question in between): find the sum of all the even numbers present
in an array of size 20?
Me: (hand over the paper with accurate code then explained how this code is more
optimized than the standard approach)
Int2 (sees the code with a little satisfaction on his face then look sideways to Int1
to proceed for formality questions): Tell me; are you comfortable with different
long working hours?
Int2 (gets little more interested): what if your work schedule over lapses with your
quality time?
Me: sir, we can always compromise on our quality time for work because work is
important and work is what gives us satisfaction of a job and if not for work you’d
also be working in a government job and I’d also be applying for one, but only
reason we are here is because of job satisfaction.
Int2 (looks again to Int1 with a satisfactory smile and then Int1 also got interested)
Int1: will you be comfortable working in Chennai because Chennai is always flood
affected?
Me: sir, TCS is already there, and employees are already working there, so this
shouldn’t be a problem. We all can adjust.
Int2: What if there’s a flood, will you complete your work or save your life (with a
smirk on his face)?
Me: of course sir, I’ll save my life first, but I will make sure that the work also gets
submitted if there’s an opportunity.
Int2 (while nodding his head in agreement): excellent, do you have any questions
for us?
Me: yes sir, I’d like to know how do employees of TCS keep them updated with
the latest technologies, are there any learning programs?
Int2: (says about ILP and more about it) anything else you’d like to know?
NOTE: Mainly, Technical interview will follow in the direction of things you have
mentioned in your resume. So, fill the information about which you’re confident.
After 20-30 minutes, results were announced. Some people got to know that their
interview process is over and they can leave now & the rest of the people were
asked to wait for some more time for their HR interview.
HR: so, you have mentioned about getting Silver Star on Hacker rank, what is it?
HR: do you know anybody else who has also gotten this Silver Star?
HR: you have this Silver Star in coding, but in written exam, you didn’t score well
in coding?
Me: (explained how I wasn’t familiar with emacs editor opened in the exam for
coding but affirmed that my logic was correct and there may be syntax error that
might have made the code incorrect and asked if you can see my code then do
check it, its logic is correct)
HR: Yeah, I can see your code. (Looks into the resume and asks) so, you like
reading non-fictional books, which book have you read recently?
Me: Sir, Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. It’s about how human civilization began
and what key factors led to where we are as a civilization now.
Me: Sir, I don’t know the name of archaeologist mentioned in the book.
Me: (told a theory and crux of the complete book for about another 3 minutes).
HR: so, where have you travelled with your friends recently?
NOTE: make sure that your hobbies are vague so that HR can’t pinpoint to any
specific question out of it.
HR: Okay, your interview is over, and we will let you know about this through the
mail.
My result was received through their next step portal, not through the mail. So,
keep checking the portal.
