In the technical interview, the candidate was asked questions about their resume, projects, data structures, coding, and willingness to work long hours in different locations. The HR interview also included questions about the candidate's academic background, achievements, hobbies and knowledge of the company. TCS INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE

My TCS Interview was scheduled on 10/09/19 at ABESIT College, Ghaziabad. For

this Interview, I was asked to bring the following documents:

1. TCS Application Form

2. Updated Resume

3. Original Mark sheets of all semesters (up to 5th semester), 10th, 12th, and
web view copy of 6th semester.

My reporting time was 10:30, and when I reached there, I was asked to verify
documents and then wait for my turn to be called in for Technical Interview. My
turn came around 2 pm. The interview was conducted in a vast library with several
panels sitting at different tables.

My Interviewer’s panel consisted of 2 middle-aged men (let’s call them Int1 and
Int2). After the initial greetings, the conversation was as follows:

Int1 (glances over my resume for 2-3 seconds): So, tell me about yourself.

Me: (told them about myself for 1-2 min)

Int1: Tell us about your project.

Me: (told them about my project)

Int1: So, tell me if you’re developing a system, how would you ensure its safety?

Me: We can ensure the system's safety by maintaining data integrity for the input
of the system and making sure that the relations between attributes are not
complicated.

Int2: What is data integration?

Me: data integration is making sure that the input data of the system is of the same
data type.

Int2: that’s data integrity, what’s data integration?

Me: I don’t know about it right now, sir.

Int2: but you must have studied it DBMS, right?

Me: yes, sir, but I can’t recall the exact definition right now.

Int2: okay, tell me about data atomicity then.

Me: data atomicity is making no. of operations on data into a single unit such that
either all the transactions are performed or none of them (after that I gave an
example about it)

Int2: tell me which courses you have studied so far?

Me: sir, Fundamentals of computer programming, data structure and algorithms

(Int2 interrupts).

Int2: what is data structure?

Me: (told definition)

Int2: tell me about different types of data structures.

Me: (told them about array and link list)

Int2 (hand over a paper to me initially asking me to code for palindrome numbers
but changes the question in between): find the sum of all the even numbers present
in an array of size 20?

Me: (hand over the paper with accurate code then explained how this code is more
optimized than the standard approach)

Int2 (sees the code with a little satisfaction on his face then look sideways to Int1
to proceed for formality questions): Tell me; are you comfortable with different
long working hours?

Me: yes, sir, work is always an important priority for me.

Int2 (gets little more interested): what if your work schedule over lapses with your
quality time?
Me: sir, we can always compromise on our quality time for work because work is
important and work is what gives us satisfaction of a job and if not for work you’d
also be working in a government job and I’d also be applying for one, but only
reason we are here is because of job satisfaction.

Int2 (looks again to Int1 with a satisfactory smile and then Int1 also got interested)

Int1 (with a smile): do you have any job location constraints?

Me: no, sir.

Int1: so, you are comfortable working anywhere in India?

Me: absolutely sir, I’d like to explore new cities.

Int1: will you be comfortable working in Chennai because Chennai is always flood
affected?

Me: sir, TCS is already there, and employees are already working there, so this
shouldn’t be a problem. We all can adjust.

Int2: What if there’s a flood, will you complete your work or save your life (with a
smirk on his face)?

Me: of course sir, I’ll save my life first, but I will make sure that the work also gets
submitted if there’s an opportunity.

Int2 (while nodding his head in agreement): excellent, do you have any questions
for us?

Me: yes sir, I’d like to know how do employees of TCS keep them updated with
the latest technologies, are there any learning programs?

Int2: (says about ILP and more about it) anything else you’d like to know?

Me: thank you sir, but that’s all I wished to know.

Int2: okay, thank you!

NOTE: Mainly, Technical interview will follow in the direction of things you have
mentioned in your resume. So, fill the information about which you’re confident.
After 20-30 minutes, results were announced. Some people got to know that their
interview process is over and they can leave now & the rest of the people were
asked to wait for some more time for their HR interview.

For HR interview (after initial greetings)

HR: So, tell me about yourself.

Me: told about myself.

HR: Why did your scores drop in 12th class?

Me: (told how chemistry subject was hard for me)

HR: (gave unsatisfied expression) that’s a very unprofessional answer.

HR: so, you have mentioned about getting Silver Star on Hacker rank, what is it?

Me: (explained what it is)

HR: do you know anybody else who has also gotten this Silver Star?

Me: no, sir (explained why?)

HR: you have this Silver Star in coding, but in written exam, you didn’t score well
in coding?

Me: (explained how I wasn’t familiar with emacs editor opened in the exam for
coding but affirmed that my logic was correct and there may be syntax error that
might have made the code incorrect and asked if you can see my code then do
check it, its logic is correct)

HR: Yeah, I can see your code. (Looks into the resume and asks) so, you like
reading non-fictional books, which book have you read recently?

Me: Sir, Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. It’s about how human civilization began
and what key factors led to where we are as a civilization now.

HR: So, where did it all began?

ME: The Book says it all started in South Africa.

HR: Who said it in the book?

Me: Sir, I don’t know the name of archaeologist mentioned in the book.

HR: Tell me more about this book?

Me: (told a theory and crux of the complete book for about another 3 minutes).

HR: (nodded) what else are your hobbies?

Me: my other hobbies are skating and travelling with friends.

HR: so, where have you travelled with your friends recently?

Me: sir, recently I have been to Manali with my friends.

NOTE: make sure that your hobbies are vague so that HR can’t pinpoint to any
specific question out of it.

HR: nice, tell me three clients of TCS.

Me: SBI, Indian Postal Service, Range Rover.

NOTE: research the company.

HR: Okay, good; do you have any questions for us?

Me: no, sir!

NOTE: always ask at least one question.

HR: Okay, your interview is over, and we will let you know about this through the
mail.

My HR Interview didn’t go as well as I thought. So, I guess confidence and

communication skills are the key factors here.

My result was received through their next step portal, not through the mail. So,
keep checking the portal.
