This is a 25-minute lesson to give you a taste of our 40-lesson Business English course.

In your words, what is business?

What are the differences between doing business with a Chinese and with a foreigner,
like, an American?

*Lesson 3-5
The first thing to do an introduction in a business occasion is to exchange Business Card
(also, name card).

Asking for Business Cards

“Do you mind if I have your business card?”

“Do you have a business card?”

“Shall we exchange business cards and get together to discuss this further sometime?”

*Handing Business Card might seem to be a simple action, yet there are also etiquettes
on presenting Business Card, which will be discussed in Lesson 2 of this course.
What sort of information should be
included in a business card?
Do you know?
Workplace Setting- Cubicle B: I’m not sure. Maybe they want to save
money, or maybe they think it’s more
A: How are things at work? effective.
B: It’s not too bad. But I hate our office setting. A: Is anybody in an office?

A: Are you in a cubicle? B: Only the people above the supervisor.

B: No. I would be happy with a cubicle. We

have 10 desks all in a large room. The
supervisor is at one end with a view of
everyone.
A: That sucks. You have no privacy.
B: I know. I can’t even take a small break
because everyone is watching. But that’s not
the worst part. I can hear everyone talking all
day long and it’s so distracting.
A: I feel sorry for you.
B: I can’t even complain about something to
the supervisor because everyone can hear.
*Lesson 7
A: Why do they have the office set up like that?

here are some examples:

"I apologize for being late. I had to drop off my wife at work. It took longer than I

thought."

"I had a dentist appointment this morning and it was longer than I expected."

"I'm sorry for being late. I got stuck in every light this morning."

*Lesson 10

your supervisor in request for some days off?

Talking to Boss-Asking for more w ork

Most companies will have so much work that you will never run out of things to do. But there
are times when you don't have enough to do. In this situation, you should ask your manager
to give you more work.

"Hi Mark, I finished all my weekly duties already. Do you have more work I can do?"

"I've been completing my work early on a regular basis. Can I have more responsibilities?"

"I have a lot of extra time. I usually double check all my work, but that doesn't take much time.

Is there any additional work I can do?"
