Pure & Essential Advanced Multivitamin & Minerals – a

nutritionist’s guide
Thank you for purchasing Pure & Essential
Advanced Multivitamin & Minerals, featuring 22
essential vitamins and minerals in the most
body-ready active forms. Pure & Essential
Advanced Multivitamin & Minerals contains full-
spectrum pre-methylated forms of B vitamins,
and active minerals in a 2-a-day slow release
formula to help keep levels topped up all day
long. Before you begin supplementation, we
have prepared some additional information about
this product which you may find useful for
optimal results with your nutrition regime.

Dosing guidelines Maxine Sheils, BSc (Hons), DipCNM

A serving of Pure & Essential Advanced Nutritionist
Multivitamin & Minerals consists of 2 tablets,
providing you with the full serving amount as indicated on the nutritional panel.
Some people are highly sensitive to new supplements and changes in their diet, so
if this sounds like you, try starting with 1 tablet per day and increasing the dosage
after a couple of weeks. Each tablet contains a split line so you could even start
with half a tablet to receive a quarter of the serving amount. If you’re not as
sensitive to change, it is perfectly safe to start with 2 tablets straightaway.

Children between the ages of 7-16 can take 1 tablet per day, receiving half the
serving amount.

Have trouble swallowing?

Each tablet contains a split line so it is very easy to snap each tablet in half, making
it easier to swallow.

Funky smell?
Don’t worry; there is nothing wrong with the product that you have received. In fact,
the smell is due to the form of selenium we use – selenomethionine, which is very
easily absorbed and deposited in the brain at higher levels compared with other
selenium forms. Whilst large amounts of fillers and coatings can be used to
disguise natural odours, we prefer to use minimal amounts of filler. It can be difficult
to obtain the right balance between no smell and minimal fillers; however, we have
prioritised minimal fillers.
This product contains iron – is this safe?
Evidence from the latest National Diet and Nutrition Survey indicates that the intake
of a number of vitamins and minerals (including iron) is below the current
recommended intake (RI), especially for females. Males, however, are more likely
to achieve or slightly exceed the RI for iron. Our decision to include 50% of the
current RI is because this supplement is intended to top up levels of nutrients that
may be missing or low in the diet and cater for men and women. In addition, we
use ferrous bisglycinate, which is a chelated form of non-haem iron that is both well
absorbed and gentle on the stomach.

How to maximise absorption

Split dosing is recommended to ensure maximum absorption and to maintain levels
of vitamins and minerals throughout the day. We also recommend taking the
tablets with food as this will stimulate the body’s natural production of digestive
enzymes, assisting in the breakdown and absorption of the vitamins.

Using Pure & Essential Advanced Multivitamin & Minerals effectively

When split dosing, we recommend taking one with breakfast, and one with your
evening meal to keep your levels topped up through the day and night, thus
supporting both energy production and sleep, as well as many other functions.
Personal differences always occur though, so if you feel like you have too much
energy in the evening and it is disrupting your sleep, try taking your supplement
with your breakfast and lunch instead, as B vitamins specifically can have an
energising effect.

Feeling the benefits

Some people feel the benefits of Pure & Essential Advanced Multivitamin &
Minerals almost immediately, with increased energy; this tends to be those who are
deficient in some of the B vitamins. For others, the effects may be less obvious.
Perhaps try recording your reasons for taking Pure & Essential Advanced
Multivitamin & Minerals (e.g. symptoms), and score them on a scale of 1-10. By
reviewing this each month, you may start to notice gradual improvements in your
symptoms.

Supporting your supplemental regime through diet

Our customers take Pure & Essential Advanced Multivitamin & Minerals for many
different reasons: to increase energy, because they have a nutrient deficiency, to
top up nutrient levels, and so on. Whilst Pure & Essential Advanced Multivitamin &
Minerals will certainly support your health goals, there are many other things you
can do to support your body in achieving your health goals, such as optimising your
diet, ensuring your lifestyle and stress is balanced and ensuring you get plenty of
sleep. We have heaps of information on our website about supporting different
health goals which you may find helpful. Whilst it can be difficult to embark on a
new diet, seeking the support and advice of a nutritionist, if you haven’t already,
may be a useful way to help you further achieve your health goals.
Going above and beyond the RDA
We often get asked why we use such high doses of some vitamins in Pure &
Essential Advanced Multivitamin & Minerals. Firstly, the recommended daily intake
(RDA) is the minimum amount needed to meet our requirements, but is the
minimum enough? As B vitamins and vitamin C are water soluble, the body is very
efficient at eliminating them from the body; this is one of the reasons why many of
these vitamins don’t have a safe upper limit - the body simply eliminates the
excess. With this in mind, we decided to meet our serving amount somewhere in
the middle, ensuring our customers were receiving an optimal amount without
exceeding the safe upper limit where applicable.

Taking other supplements alongside Pure & Essential Advanced Multivitamin

& Minerals
Many people take other supplements alongside Pure & Essential Advanced
Multivitamin & Minerals, a vitamin B complex for example. If taking Super B-
Complex, we recommend taking one Pure & Essential Multivitamin and Mineral
tablet, and one Super B-Complex so as not to exceed the UL for some of the B
vitamins. You can apply this principle to any of your supplements; simply take 1
Pure & Essential Advanced Multivitamin & Minerals per day to receive half the
amount. If you’re still unsure, feel free to contact us.

Bright yellow urine?

If you have bright yellow urine as a side-effect of taking Pure & Essential Advanced
Multivitamin & Minerals, don’t worry. This is a perfectly normal reaction and occurs
thanks to vitamin B2 which is naturally yellow and can become fluorescent in
response to light. Fun fact: this is the reason for the slight yellowing of milk, which
turns more yellow if left out of the fridge.

Why no magnesium?
Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals found in the body, but with
deficiency being widespread. It is, however, a large, bulky nutrient and the amount
of raw material needed to provide an effective dose of elemental magnesium would
simply make the tablet size impossibly large! For example, if we wished to provide
50% of the RI for magnesium we would need to add 1150mg of raw material (as
magnesium glycinate) to the current tablet, therefore each tablet would be just over
2g making them large and difficult to swallow.

While some supplements do include magnesium, they are generally in poorly

absorbed forms. Different forms of magnesium offer different amounts of elemental
magnesium (the fraction that is actually magnesium). Magnesium oxide contains
around 60% as elemental magnesium, but this form has very low bioavailability
(<4% gets into the body) with the majority simply passing through the body
unabsorbed. You will find this form in many standard multivitamin and mineral
supplements as it is a cheap ingredient, and can give the appearance that a
product is delivering a good amount of magnesium (depending on whether the
labelling details the bulk magnesium or elemental magnesium). In contrast, the
glutamate or citrate forms of magnesium are highly bioavailable, but are lower in
elemental magnesium content at around 16% - and at this low concentration, the
volume required is much higher, which is why people seeking magnesium benefits
are often advised to purchase it as a single nutrient supplement. Around 668mg of
magnesium glycinate would, for example, deliver 120mg magnesium (32% RI) and,
unlike magnesium oxide, the majority of this would be absorbed and utilised by the
body (and therefore offer health benefits).

We recommend: Triple Magnesium Complex, a fully reacted and chelated

supplement containing magnesium taurate, bisglycinate & citrate to increase
absorption pathways. Each serving provides 195mg of ultra bioavailable elemental
magnesium
