Motivation Letter for the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic for

international students

Dear Sir/Madam,

With this letter, I am applying for a position in a research project, offered at the Comenius
University Bratislava.Soren Kierkegaard said, “Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality
to be experienced.”This quote has helped in motivating me to pursue and achieve my life goals.
From the first time I understood the profession my father was in, I knew that I wanted to have a
career in Geology. Enrolling at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir as an undergraduate
student in Applied Geology, I was able to gain skills that I would later use in the job market.
Leadership and teamwork skills were gained through participating in various competitions as a
volunteer and management trainee. After completion of my studies, I was able to gain work
experience at the OGDCL National Oil and Gas Company of Pakistan, working under the
department of Geological well supervision for eight months in 2017. I recently participated in
graduate internship with Rotary Drilling Company between July and August 2018.Currently, I
am pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Miskolc in Petroleum Engineering, at the
same time, I am working on a research in “Drilling rate optimization and ROP in different rock
Formations”. The research involves comparison of geological formations of a well from Hungary
and Pakistan, conducting the analysis of ROP in different conditions. At the same time I am
involved in various student activities for example being a member of SPE student chapter and
the University’s Special College for Research (TEKH).
I wish to participate in the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic
because it will enable me to work in an environment with people who share similar interests,
providing me with an opportunity to contribute to a research that reaches a broad audience. It
would provide me with the practical experience that would aid me tremendously in pursuing my
future goals, and reveal paths I might otherwise never discover.
With my current knowledge in geosciences, I wish to expand my technical horizon in the areas of
formation evaluation, carbonate sedimentology, microfacies analysis, sedimentary petrography
and software application in geological and structural modeling. By reading the course curriculum
available online, I have found that the subject material covered will best suit my career goals.
Situated in the foot of Western Carpathian, Comenius University is the best choice to conduct
this research because faculty of Geology and Paleontology program is up to date regarding the
recent developments and research being conducted in that very region.Working with such
knowledgeable professors will directly influence the quality of my research. I would specifically
like to mention Prof. Mgr. Roman Aubrecht who will be mentoring me and he has expertise in
Carbonates sedimentology, microfacies analysis, paleo-environment studies, Regional geology
and paleogeography of the Alpine-Carpathian area. I see this as a win-win situation where
working closely with Mr. Roman will help him conduct his research more closely and I will also
be able to achieve my goals of the developing a conceptual depositional model.

Furthermore, the Comenius university the department of Geology and Paleontology is well
equipped with a Paleontological laboratory which is equipped with all the fundamental
instruments needed for the detailed study of microfossils, a sediment logical laboratory;
equipped instruments needed for the determination of partial size distribution and separation of
heavy minerals and a thin-Section Laboratory is equipped to produce a wide variety of thin-
sections and related mounts for geoscience investigation. All these, put together would make my
studies worthwhile, interesting and enjoyable.
My current institute, the University of Miskolc is different in a way that here they are mainly
focusing on the Engineering aspects of hydrocarbon recovery. Being a geologist, I find
something missing that is the scientific studies of the sedimentary rocks that is the opportunity
that I am focusing to avail at Comenius University.

Yours Faithfully
Zeeshan Ahmad
