Content Task 2 Cms

The document compares the content management systems (CMS) WordPress and Weebly. Both platforms allow for easy website creation through drag and drop interfaces or templates. However, WordPress provides more flexibility for customization while Weebly offers a simpler experience better suited for beginners. Performance and functionality are similar between the platforms. WordPress plugins offer more options but can be more difficult to install than Weebly apps. Paid plans for both platforms provide additional features and support, with WordPress options slightly cheaper. Both support ecommerce and connecting to business systems, but transferring between platforms can be challenging.

CONTENT TASK 2 CMS

I chose 2 different CMS software’s and will be comparing these based on:

· its functionality

· the support for different business models

· the available business process modelling tools

· the available visual site management tools and reporting

· its performance and stability

· the connectivity to existing business systems

· the compliance with standards

· its global and multicultural capability

WORDPRESS VS WEEBLY

FUNCTIONALITY
Both websites have a good functionality. Launching your website on the platforms
go very easily because they ask questions in the beginning that guides you in the
right direction. Weebly is a drag and drop website builder while WordPress is an
open source platform where you can freely design and create your own website to
your preferences. On Weebly you have limited options on the way how you want
your website to be like.

SUPPORT FOR DIFFERENT BUSINESS MODELS

Both websites support multiple business models. They even help you create the most
suiting website for your business by answering a few questions when you’re starting
up your website.

For example, if we’re talking about Ecommerce and marketing tools, on Weebly you
have a broad range of things to choose from. You can create coupons, customers’
email list, shoppable posts on social media, etc. For WordPress you first need to
connect to an e-commerce plugin. There are a lot of WordPress themes available
for your e-commerce website, with for every industry a fitting theme. These e-
commerce plugin can help the traffic on your website more than on Weebly
sometimes.
(Steele, 2019)
AVAILABLE BUSINESS PROCESS MODELLING TOOLS

Weebly has customization tools such as video backgrounds, custom headers, the
option to create surveys, contact forms and more. E-commerce tools as track
coupon statistics and performance, secure checkout, track and manage your
inventory, fully integrated shopping cart, … and blogging tools such as social
sharing, managing comments, customize categories, tags and navigation.

Both websites have something for every type of business.

AVAILABLE VISUAL SITE MANAGEMENT TOOLS AND REPORTING

WordPress and Weebly both offer a lot of features that you can add to your website.
Weebly is just a bit more ready-made, but gives you less flexibility than WordPress
where you build everything from scratch but you can go in any direction that you
want to. On WordPress you can change everything exactly how you want it to be
but on Weebly you are just able to adjust the themes chosen. So, if we’re discussing
visual site management tools WordPress is definitely the real winner because of their
flexible customizability. Weebly is perfect for beginners though.

When it comes to apps and plugin extensions Weebly tends to be better in this
category. They regularly update their app center with relevant tools for your website
and most of the time these are for free. WordPress does have a higher range of
plugins to offer but this doesn’t mean that these will answer all of your demands. A
lot of users have also had some difficulties to install some plugins with WordPress.
Weebly doesn’t take a lot of your time to install these and usually it’s a very easy
process. Even though the apps from Weebly are way easier to use, this doesn’t meet
they are as good as the plugins from WordPress. Both sites also have an statistics
page where you can track the traffic on your website.
(Ojdick, 2019)

PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY

Both websites have good performance and stability. But WordPress performs a bit
better. I’m not stating that all WordPress websites are faster and better than Weebly
websites, because the speed of your website can also depend on the amount of
apps or plugins that you have installed on your website.

CONNECTIVITY TO EXISTING BUSINESS SYSTEMS

Both business systems can be connected to SAP, SharePoint and many others. But
there have been some difficulties when transferring data from a Weebly website to
a WordPress website for example when the creator of the site decides to switch from
platform.
COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS
On WordPress you can start making your website for free. They have 4 paid plans:
personal, premium, business and eCommerce. For €4 monthly, paid annually, you
can already choose your own domain, have an email and live chat support and
you won’t have any WordPress advertising anymore on your website.

On Weebly they also have 4 paid plans: connect, pro, business and business plus.
The plans of WordPress are a bit cheaper than those from Weebly but they also
include some more interesting things. An interesting feature from the Business Plus
plan on Weebly is to avoid under or overcharge of shipping with their Real Time
Shipping Rate Calculator.

GLOBAL AND MULTICULTURAL CAPABILITY

WordPress and Weebly are internationally available to use by everyone. I didn’t find
any information about this topic but the first thing that came to my mind is that this is
something both of the platforms can still improve on. Most of their templates and
themes are very ‘American’ style in my opinion. If they want to gain more market
access they should also focus on the multicultural aspect and create different styles
for the other continents because style preferences differ all around the world.
CONCLUSI ON

My advice would be that if you don’t have a lot of web development skills you
should start with Weebly if you will be managing everything on the website yourself.
WordPress is recommended if you want to be as flexible as you can in everything
because it’s a self-hosted platform. Keep in mind that you will also need to do a lot
of maintenance of the website yourself. Weebly is more for beginners who are not in
need of a very complicated website.

REFLECTION

I learned a lot about both sites from this assignment. I started making my own
website for my portfolio on Weebly and I found out that it is the right website
for me to start with. Sometimes it does bother me when I have a certain lay-
out in my mind that I can’t execute on my website but then again, you get
what you pay for and I am using the free option on the website. If I would be
making a professional website in the future I would rather use WordPress so I
could get as creative as I want to with my site. I learned a lot from this
assignment even though I didn’t enjoy making it because it took quite some
time. This is something that I wouldn’t really research if it wasn’t for this
assignment so I’m glad that I had the opportunity to find this all out.
