LP - Differentiated Activitities
TEACHING MATHEMATICS 09
Grade Level/section: STE 09 Quarter: Second
Duration: 1 hour Teaching Date: November 4, 2019
I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of variation and radicals.
B. Performance Standard
The learner is able to formulate and solve accurately problems involving radicals.
C. Learning Competency
The learner shall be able to illustrate situations that involve the following variations: (a)
direct; (b) inverse; (c) joint; (d) combined.
Specific learning outcomes:
At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:
c.1. define direct variation;
c.2. cite real-life experiences applying the concept of direct variation; and
c.3. solve real-life problems involving direct variation.
II. CONTENT
Patterns and Algebra: Direct variation
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References: Grade 9 Textbook pages 78-81
B. Materials: scissors, marker, manila paper, strips of paper
C. Other learning Resources: Mathematics 9 Lesson 4-A: Direct variation (Palero, 2016)
D. Teaching strategies: MI’s through collaborative method
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance
4. Ice Breaker
- breaking the Math Hatred Cycle
B. Lesson Proper
A. Activity
- Students will be given an activity entitled “triangular pieces”. They will be grouped into
4 and will be given connected triangles with equations and exact numbers on it. The teacher will
give students 5 minutes to complete the task. The group who will complete the task within the
given time will be given gold badge worth 5 points.
𝑦 = 4(7) 𝑦 = 5(6)
𝑦 = 9(2)
𝑦 = 15(6)
𝑦 = 10(2.5) 𝑦 = 11(3.1)
𝑦 = 5(16)
B. Analysis
- The teacher will ask the following questions:
1. How did you come up with the correct answer?
2. What particular operation did you employ in finding the value of y?
3. What do you think is the relationship between the two given numbers?
4. Does the number directly multiply to another number?
C. Abstraction
- The teacher introduces the lesson:
DIRECT VARIATION
- The value of y varies directly with the value of x if there exists a nonzero constant k such that
y=kx where k is the constant of variation.
D. Application (carousel)
- With the same grouping students will answer their chosen questions within 3 minutes.
Afterwards, students will report their answer in the class.
STATION 1 STATION 2
VI. ASSIGNMENT
The students will answer activity 6 : It’s your turn ! found on page 204 numbers 1-10
