Two Curved Fuel Plates and Single Coolant "Water" Channel in Between

This document describes the original and modified models for a simulation of two curved fuel plates with a coolant channel between them. The original model contains two full fuel plates curved at 27 degrees, each with three regions of fuel, zirconium, and cladding. The modified model cuts each fuel plate in half to create upper and lower half plates for the simulation, leaving the coolant channel unchanged between them. Dimensions of the components are provided in tables and figures.

Two Curved Fuel Plates and single Coolant “water” Channel in

Between.
1. General Description of the Original Model:
General description of the original model is provided in section1 of this report. The model
contains two curved fuel plates with a single coolant channel in between, see Figure# 1 (A&B).
The angle of curvature for all the curves are 27 degree. Each fuel plates contains three regions
namely Fuel (U-10Mo), Zirconium (Zr) and Clad (6061 Al). Table 1. described the dimensions (in
X, Y and Z coordinates) for the fuel plates and the coolant channel in between. For more
clarification, description for the dimensions of a single curved fuel plate is drawing in figures#
2&3.

This space in between is the Coolant Channel Fuel Plate # 1

2. Modified Model for Simulation (Half Fuel Plate)

This simulation will be performed on a half fuel plate like showing in figure#4. Originally,
there is a two curved fuel plates (FP) parallel to each other with a coolant channel in between, like
figure#1 of this report. Each FP contains three regions (fuel, Zr and Clad). FPs were cut by half
(in the center line of the fuel"U-10Mo"), see figure#4. Please note that the outer surfaces of the
computational domain are set to be adiabatic, see figure#4. The computational domain of CFD
model will contain half FP in the upper side and half FP in the lower side and there is no change
in the coolant channel, it will remain the same, see figure#5.
