Plant Parts and Functions


Day 1
I. Objectives
At the end of the 40-minute period, the students are able to:
A. Cognitive
- identify the parts of a plant
- describe the functions of the different parts of a plant
B. Affective
- value the importance of plants through thumbs up-down activity
C. Psychomotor
- write legibly and correctly the parts and functions of plants

II. Subject Matter


A. Topic: Plant Parts and Their Functions
B. Reference: The New Science Links and Real Life Science 1 (pp.
C. Interdisciplinary: Noun and Adjectives (English)
D. Material: PPT, Real Plant and Aralinks Teachnology

III. Learning Activities


A. Review
“Ask and Tell”
- Showing a picture of group of animals with a chat bubble asking the following questions:
What are our different needs?
How will you take care of us?
What is our importance?
- Let the students share to the class their answers.
B. Motivation
“Show and Tell”
- Presenting a picture of a plant.
- Observing and describing the plant.
C. Presentation
“Labelling” (Aralinks Teachnology)
- Identifying and labeling the parts of the plant.
Ask:
What do you think will happen if a plant lacks / loses one of its parts?
“Describe Me”
- Posting strips of paper, in which the functions of plants parts are written.
- Labeling each function to its corresponding part.
Ask:
If you see a beautiful flower in the park, will you pick it from its plant? Why / Why not?
 Valuing
“Thumbs-Up and Down Activity”
- Valuing the importance of plants.

D. Synthesis and Generalization


“Pass the Ball”
- The students who gets the ball once the music stops will answer one of the following questions:
 What are the different parts of the plant and their functions?
 As a grade 1 student, how do you show care for the plants?
- The parts of the plant are roots, stem, leaves, flowers, and fruits. A plant is one of the beautiful
creations of God that’s why we need to take care of them by simply watering it and tilling its soil.
E. Evaluation
Writing correctly the parts and functions of plants
