Gis and Rs Report: ID:B141592 Roll No:30 (AB-1:112) Dept:Civil Engineering

1. The document provides steps for georeferencing a topographic map image in ArcGIS. This involves opening the image, selecting the geographic coordinate system, and assigning coordinates to ground control points on the image corners to spatially reference it. 2. Steps are provided for creating a false color composite in ArcGIS using a three band image, adjusting the color ramp and classes. 3. Steps show how to mosaic two DEM images in ArcGIS to merge them into a single 3D image that provides elevation values. Ground control points are not needed for mosaic since the images are already georeferenced.

GIS AND RS REPORT

ID:B141592
Roll No:30(AB-1:112)
Dept:Civil Engineering

1. GEOREFERENCING

Step1: Open the ARC GIS(10.4.6) Software and select

the topographic image file from respected folder and open
it and give a right click on the opened page and select
the 'Georeferencing' option. On the top left side
Georeferencing tab will show various options like link
table, ground control point selecting option etc.

Step2: In the image page there will be a 'Customize' option, click

on that option and select the Spatial analyst option.
Step3: Click on view option and click 'Dataframe properties' in
that select option of 'Geographic Coordinate System'.

Step4: Click on 'Geographic Coordinate System' and click on

'World' option.
Step5:In 'World' option select 'WGS 1984' and click 'Ok' button.

Step 6: Zoom out the topographic map and Start to select the
ground control points on corners of the topographic map.
and first select the option in georeferencing select ground control
point option and select one corner point and give a right click to
that point and assign input DMS Xand Y coordinates i.e
Longitude(East(E)) and Lattitude(North(N)) values and click on
OK option.

Step7: Same above procedure will be applied for rest of the

corners also. It is second ground control point .

Step8: It is third ground control point and here it is first order

polynomial equation there should be a selection of 3 ground
control points.

Step9: It is 4th ground control point and here it is a first order

polynomial equation ,3 GCP's are required but for more
accuracy extra points can also be selected.
Step10: After selection of ground control points there will be a
check of Root mean square error(RMSE).For more
accuracy RMSE should be less and in this Report RMS
Error is less then ground control point selection and it is
accurate.

Step11: After completion of the process of georeferencing

respected file should be saved in one new folder. After
that if any ground control point is selected anywhere on
the map then that point automatically georeferenced
with its longitude and lattitude can be seen.
2. False Color Composite
Step1: Open ArcGis 14.0.4. software and open three band images
with the help of catalog
Step2: Now Right click on image name(In Table of contents
Layers image name) and click on properties option

Step3:Now after click on Properties one menu will open it will

show some options, click on “Symbology” option and in that
Symbology option click on “ Stretched”option..
Step4: After that change the color Ramp and press apply after each
color and see the diffrent false color compositions
Step5:And if we want to chane the classes we can change by
clicking on classes option.

Step6:Final output image after applying FCC

If we want to see pixel value then click on “i” symbol icon and click
on any where on the image..
3. DIGITAL ELEVATION MODEL(MOSAICING)
Step1: Open ArcGis 14.0.4. software and open two images with
the help of catalog
Step2: Now Right click on image name(In Table of contents
Layers image name) and click on properties option

Step3: Now after click on Properties one menu will open it will
show some options, click on “Symbology” option and in that
Symbology option click on “ Stretched”option and change the
colors for images with the use of color ramp.
Step4: Open Arc Toolbox and click on option of Data
Management Tools in that click on option of Raster in that click
on Raster Dataset and finally select an option of Mosaic to New
Raster
Step5: After selection of Mosaic to New Raster there is a option
shown that Input Rasters and select the respected images of
mosaicing.

Step6: In an output location give a access of mosaicing images

folder(dem) in that create a new folder named as (merge) and click
on Add option.
Step7: In pixel type(optional) select an option of 16_BIT_SIGNED

Step8: In the bottom of Mosaic to New Raster dialogue box click

on option of Environments Settings and click on Output
Coordinates then click on Output Coordinate system and give a
access of Same as Input.
Step10: After completion of the process of mosaicing the two
separate images are merged as one image. This merged image is
3D image which will gives the elevation value of respected
location in the image.

Step11: click on 'i' option drag it on the image and give a click on
anywhere on the merged image it will shows pixel value and that
pixel value is the elevation value.
