ABSTRACT
The Kazipet Diesel Loco shed opened on 21st April 1973 with fleet of 30 WDM 2
locos and grown up to present loco holding of 145 locos of different types of Diesel
locomotives, the diesel locoshed certified for ISO-9001-2000.

The power pack as the name itself is the Prime Source of Power in locomotives.
It’s a huge assembly of components which includes crankshaft, crankpins, cylinders,
cylinder block, piston rings, piston valves, cams, cam shaft and other accessories. The
power pack is coupled to alternator which converts the mechanical energy by it into
electrical energy. The power pack assembly consists of four systems involved they are fuel
oil system, water cooling system, Air intake system and Lube oil system.

The project deals with the study on diesel locomotives and increasing the
efficiency of locomotive engine by the new developments and changes in major
components of the engine.
