Protecting and Testing

The document describes procedures for testing auxiliary relays. It lists the key steps as measuring pick up and drop off voltage/current and timing, measuring relay burden, and measuring contact resistance. Equipment needed includes an injection kit, multi-meter, and connection cables. The pick up/drop off and timing tests involve energizing the relay at 125V and recording measurement values. The burden test measures current drawn by the relay before and after operation over time.

AUXILARY RELAY TESTING

Testing Procedures
 Measure Relay Pick up & Drop off Voltage/current. Download: Auxiliary Te
 Measure Relay Pick up & Drop off Timing.
 Measure Relay Burden.
 Measure Relay Contact Resistance.

Equipment Required
1. Injection Kit (Sverker, Freja, .. etc).
2. Measurement Device (Multi-meter).
3. Connection Cables (Banana Type).

Sverker 760 Multi-meter

Pick Up & Drop Off Test
 Connection will be same as the shown figure.
 Increase voltage until the relay picks up. Note down the pick up value
for voltage & current.
 Decrease voltage until the relay drops off. Note down the drop off
value for voltage & current.

Pick Up & Drop Off Timing Test
 For timing test we will use one pole of MCB series with Ammeter to cut dc supply off.
 Use the other pole of MCB for starting sverker timer.
 Use any contact from the aux. relay to stop sverker timer.
 Inject 125V directly to the relay coil. Note down the pick up time.
 Energize the relay with 125V then switch the supply off. Note down the drop off time.

Burden Test
 Energize the relay with 125V and measure the dc current.
 Cal

Burden Test
 Adjust the timer with high time delay for example: 2 minutes.
 Energize the relay with 125V and measure the dc current.
 Note down the current before timer operates.
 After 2 minutes relay will pick up. Note down the current after operation.
 Calculate the relay power (W) = 125v x measured current
