BPT Lesson Idea Itec

This lesson plan uses PowerPoint to teach kindergarten students about shapes. The PowerPoint presentation shows pictures of objects around the world that demonstrate different shapes. It is presented both as a slideshow and as a movie to accommodate different learning styles. The presentation asks students questions about the shapes and gives them time to answer before providing the correct response. The goal is for students to practice recognizing shapes in different orientations and contexts in order to correctly identify shapes regardless of size or position. The lesson could be expanded by having students find and identify shapes in their own classroom.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): PowerPoint creates many different tools for all the students in the
classroom. You can change a PowerPoint presentation to a movie which can support the students that have
auditory deficiencies and visual deficiencies. It can also help the students with short attention spans by
interesting them with the different effects that PowerPoint has to offer.

Lesson idea implementation: For this presentation, I created a slideshow presentation and also changed the
PowerPoint over to a mp4 which will let the presentation run on its own. In this lesson, the presentation
introduces different shapes that the students should be familiar with. The presentation gives the students
pictures of where they might see different shapes of objects in public. The movie form of this presentation
also creates a movie that runs on its own and lets the students have a limited time for each slide. In the movie
format it asks the students a question that they can answer if they are familiar with it and after each
question, I give the students about 10 seconds before it moves on to tell them the answer.
This lesson gives the students a chance to recognize shapes in different environments and also in
different sizes. This gives the student an extended look of what shapes might look like when they are objects
that surround them. This activity gives the students a chance to connect the shape name to the actual shape.
When student see the shapes visually this helps students more of a chance of remembering the shape and
the name.

Reflective Practice: This lesson allows students to extend their thinking past the pictures I provided and lets
them be creative and think of objects they might have seen themselves. This activity can be extended by
asking the students to take the time to look around the classroom and come up with shapes that are seen.
This gives the students the chance to extend their thinking of where they have seen shapes along the streets
or within their homes.
