Functions Edsc
Functions Edsc
In order to further test that you truly understand how functions work especially when related to
other functions, the math department has created this project that uses your iPads! Everyone
will give a 2-4 minute presentation on the information they discovered and their answers to the
following questions below. This assignment will be due October 31st at 12PM via email and we
will present each project the following week. Good luck and remember to email me or call me if
you have any questions or need help downloading any of the apps.
Please go ahead and download these apps now so if you have any issues downloading we can
solve them before it gets too late.
Steps:
1) Download all three apps.
2) Look at all the problems below and read the rubric.
3) Answer ALL the problems below by graphing on geogebra to visually see how the
functions are affected.
4) While you are graphing the functions, please analyze how the changes we have made to
the parent function have affected the new function(s).
5) Please have one slide in your keynote presentation dedicated to each of the 3 parent
functions. On these dedicated slide answer these questions:
a) Is the function even or odd?
b) What does the function look like before any changes
c) Include a graph of the function
6) Use the keynote app to explain the changes to each function both visually and verbally.
7) Your presentation must be 2-4 minutes and please do not simply read off the screen.
What I mean by this is put very minimum words on your powerpoint and mainly use it to
display the visuals while you explain to your classmates.
8) Please use specific math terms such as “horizontally shifted right 4 units” when
describing your functions. As well as please go into deeper thinking and truly analyze
how changing a functions formula changes the way it looks.

For the problems below f(x)=6x3 +2 g(x)=e2.56x h(x)=-4(x-6)+2

Teacher’s Answers
Answers for f(x):
Problems:
1) f(h(x))=6(-4(x-6)+2)3+2
This change reflects f(x) over the y-axis as well as shifts it to the right about 6.5 units.
2)
This new function t(x) is very similar to the original h(x). The differences are it is
now reflected over the y-axis, It also shifts the function to the left 2 and stretches
it by a factor of 4.
3)
This graph is vertically stretched and still has a horizontal asymptote at y=0
This graph is reflected over the y-axis compared to the parent function.
This graph is reflected over the y-axis compared to the parent function as well as
vertically stretched.
4) h(g(x))= -4(e2.56x-6)+2
This is a reflected over the x-axis g(x) function that is also shifter up around 26
units and to the right 2 units. As well as stretched by 4 units vertically
5)
g(x) and h(x) are similar because they both have a vertical asymptote as well as
are both increasing with an increasing AROC. f(x) is different because it has a
constant AROC and is decreasing.
