SESSION GUIDE

TITLE : NON-TRADITIONAL ASSESSMENT

DURATION : 2 HOURS

KEY UNDERSTANDING TO BE DEVELOPED:


 Assessment is a powerful tool of communicating to students what teachers consider as
valuable for them to learn.

 Rubrics are established criteria, including rules, principles and illustrations used in
scoring responses to individual items and clusters of items. It is a scoring tool that lays
out the specific expectations for a performance task.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Define assessment and rubrics
2. Construct an analytic and holistic rubrics
3. Valued the importance of non-traditional assessment in assessing student’s performance

RESOURCES NEEDED :
* manila paper * Handouts on Non-Traditional Assessment
* cartolina * PowerPoint Presentation
* pentel pens * LCD/DLP Projector
* ruler * LCD/DLP Screen
* scotch tape * Laptop

ACTIVITY : (20 MINUTES)


• Developing Criteria for Singing Competition
• Instructions:
1. The participants will be divided into five groups.
2. Each group will select a leader to facilitate the proceedings of the activity and a
rapporteur to report the output.
3. The group will be given 10 minutes for the brainstorming and develop a criteria in
judging a singing competition.
4. Each group will be given 2 minutes for the output presentation.

ANALYSIS: (10 MINUTES)


• Guide Questions:
1. Who among the groups presented the best in the output presentation?
What makes their presentation best?
2. Who among the groups presented the least in the output presentation?
What makes their presentation the least?
3. Who among the groups having similar items in developing criteria in judging a singing
contest?
4. What are the criteria that could only be found in the group?
 Statement: Later on, we will know if your best is really the best and your least is really the
least in developing a criteria after discussing the Non-Traditional Assessment.
ABSTRACTION: (30 MINUTES)

2. A PowerPoint presentation on the different samples of rubrics.

APPLICATION: (1 HOUR)
• Rubric Construction
• Instructions:
1. The participants will be divided into five groups.
2. Each group will select a leader to facilitate the proceedings of the activity and a
rapporteur for the output presentation.
3. The group will be given 30 minutes to construct a rubric.
4. Each group will be given 3 minutes for the output presentation.
5. Output critiquing

CONCLUDING STATEMENT:
“Unless assessment helps improve the teaching-learning process, it does not serve any
purpose at all.”
