INSTALLATION OF DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEM PC

INTRODUCTION
For learning and analyzing the installation of different operating system on PC through Starting
the Installation Media, Configuring Initial Setting, Collecting Information, Installing Windows,
Setting up Windows, Logging into Windows.Install Linux in a Virtual Machine and Explore the
GUI through Preparing a Computer for Virtualization, Installing a Linux OS on the Virtual
Machine, Exploring the GUI.

OBJECTIVES
How to install windows on PC.

Installation of virtual box and linux operating system on virtual box.

Recommended Equipment

Configuring Initial Setting

Collecting Information

Installing Windows

Setting up Windows

Logging into windows


PROCEDURE

STEP 1
This is the first screen. If install Windows 10 using a USB flash drive or DVD. Where choose the
language, time, currency format and input method.

STEP 2
Like Windows 8x, also choose repair your computer option. If choose the repair option, the
troubleshoot screen, where choose to reset your PC and re-install windows, or advanced
troubleshooting options.There are options for ding a system restore, image restore, running
commands in command prompt.
STEP 3
Windows product key can be found in the confirmation email or DVD. If device has been
successfully upgraded to Windows 10 then choose wipe your device and do clean install later
then device will reactivate without the need of a product key.
STEP 4
Accept the license terms. After read them, ofcourse window show some terms about license.

STEP 5
Then select the drive to install Windows 10 on.

STEP 6
Now, wait during processing data.
STEP 7
Before start using the windows there are some personalization, location browser, protection,
connectivity error setting.

STEP 8
Then choose to customize the settings, the first page deals with your contact, calendar, input and
location data.
STEP 9
Need to specify who owner of the device choose to sign in with your ID.

STEP 10
Microsoft really wants to sign Windows10 with your Microsoft account.If choose Microsoft
services like Office, One Drive.
STEP 11
Instead of signing in using your Microsoft account password then must create password, or short
pin.

STEP 12
Then also decide if you want to turn on the cortana personal assistant feature.
STEP 13
At sometime, if want to set the built in apps to the default apps for certain tasks. Simply unstuck
the boxes.

At last, Welcome to Windows 10.

Background/Scenario
Computing power and resources increased over last 10 years. A benefit of multi-core processors
and large amount ability to install multiple operating system or use virtualization on a computer.
More than one operating system installed. The switch between operating system by restarting
and choosing the operating system to boot.

Required Resources
1.Computer with a minimum of 2 GB of RAM and 10GB of free disk.

2.High speed Internet access to download Oracle Virtual Box and Linux OS image, such as
Ubuntu Desktop.

PART 1

Preparing a Computer for Virtualization


Also download and install desktop virtualization software and a Linux OS image.
STEP 1

Download and install Virtual Box


VMware Player and Oracle Virtual Box are two virtualization programs that also download and
install to support the OS image file.

Choose and download the appropriate installation file based on your operating system.If runnig a
Windows OS, click the Windows installer to download the file .

After the Virtual Box installation file is download, run the installer and accept the default
settings.

STEP 2

Download the Linux image


Select the 64 bits or 32 bits version if the OS.Click start to downloading.

PART 2

Installing a Linux OS on the machine

STEP 1

Create a new Virtual machine


Click start and search for virtual box to open the manager. When the manager opens, Click New
to start the Ubuntu installation.
In the name and operating system screen type Ubuntu in the Name flied, for the type flied, select
Linux in the version text, select Ubuntu (64 bits).

In the memory size screen, increased the amount of RAM if desired as a the amount of RAM for
the virtual machine in green area. Click NEXT to continue.

In the hard disk screen, click create to create a virtual hard disk now
.

In the storage on physical hard disk screen use the default storage settings, click next to continue.
In the File location and size screen, you can adjust the hard drive and change the name and
location of the virtual hard drive. Click create to use the default settings.
When the hard drive creation is done new virtual machine is listed in the Oracle VM.Select
Ubuntu and click start in the top menu.
STEP 2

Install Ubuntu on the Virtual Machine


When the virtual machine starts the first time without an installed OS, where an image OS can be
found.

If downloading the OS, click file manager icon to browse the OS image location in the file
system. Select the file and Click OPEN to start the installation.

If the OS in an optical disk select the location of the optical driver.

Start in the pervious step, skip this step,then return to the ORACLE VM. Right click Ubuntu and
select settings window, click storage in the left panel.
Welcome screen Ubuntu now install clicking here.
In the preparing to install Ubuntu screen verify the computer meets the installation represented
by check marks. Select download updates while installing.
Ubuntu installation in a virtual machine, is safe to erase the disk. Select erase disk and install
Ubuntu.
Click continue to erase the disk and install Ubuntu.

Now verify the location listed is correct.Click continue.


In the keyboard layout screen, verify the correct keyboard layout is selected then click continue.
Now provide your name and choose a strong password. Use ITE User for name and ITE pass.
The Ubuntu OS is now installating in the virtual machine. Take some several minutes. The
installation Complete windows displays and click Restart now to use the new installation.

PART 3

Exploring the GUI


Install the virtual boxguest additions and explore the GUI.

STEP 1

Install the Guest Additions


Log into Ubuntu virtual machine using the user credential.

Click Device then Insert Guest Additions CD image.


Click run to install the additions. When prompted password, use the same password that you
used to log in.
If the computer is not installted to the internet during the installation then. Click the Device then
Oracle settings.
When the installation is done, restart the virtual machine again. Click setting in the upper right
corner and click shut down.Click restart to RESTART Ubuntu.
