Tree planting is the process of transporting tree seedlings, generally for forestry, land reclamation, or
landscaping purposes. It differs from the transportation of larger trees in arboriculture, and from the
lower cost but slower and less reliable and less distribution of tree seeds.
Planting trees on a school campus will drastically improve the aesthetic appearance of the grounds making
the campus more inviting to students, parents, teachers, and the surrounding community, provide shade
to cool down hot recreation spaces and create outdoor classroom space that can be used as a teaching
tool.
In support with the National Tree Planting Day ,last August 29,2019, the SAN RAFAEL ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL held activities to increase the awareness of pupils on the importance of trees and tree planting
in our environment. Before the activities ,the school principal, NOVA B. SARMIENTO, delivered her speech
regarding the importance and benefits of trees not only in our school and community but also to our
environment. The principal stressed the cause and effect of planting trees and its role to our environment.
Pupils were enlightened about how significant trees are and were able to appreciate the speech delivered
by the principal.
After the speech was delivered, the pupils, Teachers and even our School Principal started
planting trees to the identified safety sites and vacant lot where the seedlings will be placed. Different
kinds of fruit bearing – trees like Mangoes, Atis, Lanka, Guyabano, Guava and even some forest trees like
Mahogany and Acacia were planted to vacant lot. We really need these trees to mitigate the effects of
climate change.
Pupils serve as the primary planters which allows them to take ownership of the projects and
responsibility for the trees. After the tree planting activity, the pupils went back to their respective rooms
with a smile in their faces. Each of them was happy about the tree planting activities.
