Assignment - 7 : Solution

Q1.Solution

In lap winding the number of parallel paths is equal to the number of poles.

Q2.Solution

Because of many parallel paths, lap winding is suitable for low voltage high current dc machines.

Q3.Solution

The number of parallel paths in wave winding is equal to 2.

Q4.Solution

Wave winding is suitable for high voltage low current dc machines.

Q5.Solution

The number of coils : 24

The number of turns per coil : 10

Total number of armature conductors : 2 × 24 × 10 = 480

For a two pole machine number of parallel pathes : 2
2πrl 2 × π × 0.1 × 0.25
The actual pole area : Ap = = = 0.0785m2
P 2
The effective pole area : Ae = 0.0785 × 0.8 = 0.0628
The effective flux per pole: φp = BAe = 1 × 0.0628 = 0.0628W b
Z P 480 2
The induced emf armature winding : Ea = φp ωm = × × 0.0628 × 183.2 = 878.92V
2π a 2π 2

Q6.Solution

Voltage induced in the rotating loop: eind = 2rlBω

= 2 × 0.4 × 0.6 × 0.4 × 500 = 96V

Q8.Solution

Z ×P
Armature constant(Ka ) =
60a
Where Z- is number of conductors
P-Number of poles
a- Number of parallel paths
Number of conductors Z = 2 × 30 × 6 = 360
a = Number of poles for a lap winding = 4
360 × 4
Ka = =6
4 × 60

Q9.Solution

Circumference of Armature × Percentage area covered by poles

Area of pole (Ap ) =
Number of poles
2π × 0.14 × 0.28 × 0.75
= = 46.18 × 10−3 m2
4
Flux density (B) = 0.6W b
Flux per pole (φ) = Ap × B = 46.18 × 10−3 × 0.6 = 0.0277
∴ Generated EMF (Ea ) = Ka × φ × N
= 6 × 0.0277 × 1000
= 166.2 V
