It explains that most issues are due to the receiver not being activated with XM, which is indicated by the "ACTIVE" field showing "No". G1000 GDL 69/69A General Troubleshooting –

GDL69 Page (configuration mode) – If problems exist with either audio reception or display of weather products, the
Data section of the GDL 69 page offers a few useful details including:

CONFIGURATION Section –
• Settings are preloaded from the configuration files loaded from the SD loader card for the airframe the unit is
installed in.
• The antenna gain and cable loss settings are preloaded and can not be changed. Do not substitute original
equipment XM antennas with other brands/models.
• The ACTIVE column may not have any information present, this is normal and does not indicate a problem.

DATA Section –
• ID – This is the unique radio identifier for both the audio and data (weather) receivers on the GDL 69/69A. These
IDs are used for activation of each unit’s audio and weather receivers.
• ACTIVE – The Active field indicates whether the individual receivers (audio or data) have been activated for the
unit. If the Active status indicates a “No”, then the corresponding ID field listed above should be forwarded to XM
for activation.
NOTE
The vast majority of GDL 69/69A removals have been for not receiving weather or audio, when received
for repair we find that they were not activated, or had lost their activation due to prior software issues (ref
SB 0538 and 0544). The ACTIVE field status reporting listed above refers to GDU v6.XX or later
software. Prior versions of GDU SW utilized a different scheme for active status reporting, and it does not
correspond to this behavior.

• SIGNAL – Signal strength is defined on a scale of 0 to 3 as follows:

0 - no signal
1 - weak signal
2 - marginal signal
3 - good signal
NOTE
Levels 2 and 3 should allow proper operation of all GDL 69/69A audio and weather options, while levels 0
or 1 will likely experience problems with availability. A “204” message in the signal field indicates that
signal information is not initialized.

DIAGNOSTICS Section - The Diagnostics section of the GDL 69 config page is included for XM use only and does not
provide any useful diagnostic information for unit troubleshooting.
