About the writer:


 Born on 11 December 1911in Egypt.
 One of the first contemporary writers of Arabic fiction.
 Play writer, short stories writer and novelist.
 Had written almost 30 plays, 45 novels and hundreds of shorts stories.
 Died 30 august 2006 in Egypt.
 Most of his stories are set in his homeland.
 Awarded noble prize of literature in 1998.

 Teacher the protagonist (miss).
 Badran badawi the antagonist (headmaster).
 Mother (the mother of miss).

Present day at school and protagonist home at Abbaiyya.

Summary:
The story describes a teacher an older woman, who felt distress when she learned about the arrival of
new headmaster. Who was known for his high aptitude and strictness. Just like other teachers she met
him but did not utter a single word. As the story progress we learn that her distress came from the
worst fact that she knew who he was. When she was a teenager he used to be her tutor. One day in the
absence of her parents, he physically abused her and told her to keep it a secret and that he will
propose her when she would grew mature. At that time when he was abusing her his age was around 25
that of her father age. And he kept his promise and cam to ask for her hand. As she reached to a degree
of maturity and was able to understand her position found that she had no love or respect for him. Her
mother being single parent from last two years told her to take the decision on her own.
