A curved road 74m in radius has a super elevation of 0.12 and a design speed of 80kph. The coefficient of friction between the tires and the pavement is 0.56. Multiple traffic and roadway design calculations are provided, including flow, density, spacing, acceleration, super elevation, lane width, maximum velocity, curve length, and centripetal force.

coefficient of friction between the tires and the pavement. 0.56

Situational: The peak hour factor for a traffic during rush hour along Espana street is equal to 0.6 with a
highest 5-minute volume of 250 vehicles. The space mean speed of the traffic is 90 kph.

1. Compute the flow of traffic 1800 veh/hr

2. Compute the density of traffic k = 20veh/km
3. Compute the maximum spacing of the vehicles 50m/veh

Situational: An easement curve along Kennon road has a length of spiral equal to 60m having a central
curve of radius 400m. The design velocity of the car allowed to pass thru this portion is 100kph.

1. Compute the rate of increase of centripetal acceleration 2.9292 ft/s2

2. If the friction factor is equal to 0.14, compute the super elevation rate of the roadway. 0.0566m/m
3. Compute the width of one lane of roadway if the difference in grade between the centerline and
the edge of the roadway is 1/220. 4.8185m

A highway curve is super elevated at 6°. If the radius of the curve is 150m, find the maximum velocity that
a car could run around so that there will be no lateral pressure between the tires and the pavement. 44.77

Determine the maximum velocity that a car could run around a 5 curve if the impact factor is 0.14. Neglect
friction between the tires and the pavement. 63.87kph

A vertical summit curve connects the grades 2.20% and -1.80%. If the stopping sight distance is 100m, find
the length of the curve. 94.25m
