Motivation and Reward System


The Foundations of motivation focus on identifying internal factors such as instincts, needs, satisfaction, and
job characteristic that energize employee motivation. It focusses on explaining the process by which internal
factors and cognitions influence employee motivation. It includes the following: Motivational theories, Content
theory of motivation focuses on identifying internal factors such as instincts, needs, satisfaction, and job
characteristic that energize employee motivation , Process theories of motivation focus on explaining the
process by which internal factors and cognitions influence employee motivation, and Maslow's Need
Hierarchy Theory.
Content Perspective is approach to motivation that tries to answer the question, " What factor or factors
motivate people?" Under the content perspective the biggest approach that is address is the need hierarchy
with many different theories underneath that particular approach.
Motivational applications are the application of motivational foundation and theories as guidelines in
designing motivation policies and in improving motivation practices such as reward and incentives, job
enrichment and job satisfaction.
Process perspective on Motivation is an approach that focus on why people choose certain behavioral options
to fulfill their needs and how they evaluate their satisfaction after they have attained these goals.
Reinforcement perspective on motivation is the process of shaping behavior by controlling the consequences
of the behavior. It is a theory which combined rewards and/or punishments to reinforce desired behavior or
extinguish unwanted behavior.
Job design for motivation is a psychological theory of motivation which systematically and purposefully
allocating task to a groups and individuals within an organization.
Appraising and rewarding performance system - processes, practices and systems that are used to provide
levels of pay and benefits to employees who undertake work for the reason of achieving reasonable rewards,
financial and non-financial.
Employees Attitudes can have either a positive or negative attitude about specific work tasks, products or
services, co-workers or management, or the company as a whole positive attitude among employees make
workdays more enjoyable
