IIS Installation in Windows XP

Prerequisites:

 IIS installation in Windows XP will need CD of the Operating system, so make sure that
you have it with you.

Steps to Install IIS in XP

1. Open the Control Panel and click on Add or Remove Programs.

2. Double click on Add/Remove Windows Components.


3. The Windows Components Wizard will open.

4. Check the box to activate Internet Information Services (IIS). Then Click Next. The “Files
Needed” pop up will open.
5. Click on Browse button. For this Operating System CD is required. Then locate the file
STAXMEM under I386 folder either from local drive or from CD.

6. The System will copy the data.


7. Click on Finish to complete the IIS installation.
IIS Installation in Windows 7/8/Vista

Steps to Install IIS in Windows 7/8/Vista

1. Open the Control Panel and click Programs and Features.

2. Click on Turn Windows Features on or off. The Windows Features window will open.

3. Click to expand Internet Information Services.


 Check the box to activate FTP server.
 Check the box to activate Web management Tools features.
4. Click to expand World Wide Web Services.
 Activate the Application Development features.
 Activate Common HTTP Features.

5. Activate Microsoft .NET features.

6. Then Click OK. The system will complete the installation.


IIS Installation in Windows Server Operating System 2003

Prerequisites:

 IIS installation in Windows Server 2003 will need CD of the Operating system, so make
sure that you have it with you.

Steps to Install IIS in Server 2003

1. Open “Configure Your Wizard Server” from the Administrative Tools.

2. Click Next button and navigate to Configuration Options page.


3. Select Custom Configuration and click Next.

4. Now, In the Server Role page, select Application server (IIS, ASP.NET). Then click on Next to
configure it.
5. In the Application Server options page, check the boxes to enable FrontPage Server
Extensions and Enable ASP.NET. Then Click Next.

6. The summary of selections will be shown. Click Next.


7. The selection will be applied and prompt to insert the CD. Then insert the operating system
CD and click OK to proceed.

8. The system will copy the data.


9. Click on Finish to complete the installation of Application server.

10. Go to Administrative Tools and open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. You
can view the Web service Extension Status.
IIS Installation in Windows Server Operating System 2008

Steps to Install IIS in Server 2008

1. Go to Server Manager.

2. Click on Add Roles. The Add Roles Wizard opens.


3. Click on Server Roles.

4. Check the Web Server (IIS) box.


5. The Add Roles Wizard opens. Click on Add Required features.

6. Then Check the Application Server check box.


7. Select HTTP Activation. And click on Add Required Role Services. Click on Next.

8. Now, select Role Services under Web Server (IIS).


9. Activate Common HTTP features and Application Development features. Click on Next.

10. Under Confirmation, click on Install. The system will install the components.
11. Click on Close to exit the installation wizard.
IIS Installation in Windows Server Operating System 2012

Steps to Install IIS in Server 2012

1. Open the Server Manager.

2. Click on Manage and select Add Roles and Features. Also it can be selected from the
dashboard. Then click Next.

3. Now Click on Installation Type and select Role based or feature based installation. Then
click Next.
4. Now in Server Selection, “Select a server from the server pool” is to be selected. Then
highlight the operating system in the server pool and click on Next.
5. In Server Roles tab, check the Web Server (IIS) box to add the IIS roles. In Add Roles and
features wizard pop up, click on Add Features.

6. Also Click the Application Server check box. Then click on Next.
7. Click Features. Select .NET Framework 3.5 Features. Click on Next.
8. Make sure that these roles are checked.
9. Under Confirmation, click on Install. The system will install the components.

10. Click on Close to exit the installation wizard.


IIS Installation Verification

1. Open the internet browser of your computer.


2. Type the URL http://localhost/ and enter.
3. The IIS page as shown below will appear on the screen if it is installed successfully.
