Soil Test Report: Basement + (2 ) Storeyed R.C.C Building

This soil test report summarizes subsurface investigation work conducted for a proposed basement plus 21⁄2 storey RCC building. Two boreholes were drilled to a depth of 30 feet. Soil samples were collected and tested in the laboratory. The report concludes by recommending allowable bearing capacities at different depths based on the standard penetration test results. Capacities range from 0.73 to 2.05 tons per square foot depending on the depth.

GENERAL
The subsurface investigation at the subject site has been performed in order to
evaluate the in-situ soil propertie` s pertaining to its physical and engineering characteristics. The
work presented in this report was undertaken by Cilvil Engineers Construction Co-operative
Limited. This report includes field and laboratory studies comprising the general subsurface soil
condition prevailing at the site.

SAMPLING PROGRAM
The program consisted of (2) bore holes. The depth of the bore hole is about
30ft. The soil samples were collected at the depth of 6,9,12,18, 24 and 30ft SPT test were per-
formed wherever the samples were collected.

FIELD STUDY
As a field study, bore hole log was observed and visual classification was made.
Ground water table was also measured.

LABORATORY STUDIES
The collected samples were sent to the Soil Mechanics Laboratory of CECC in
order to perform the necessary following tests. The tests were performed according to the
Standard Soil Mechanics Practices for finding physical and engineering characteristics of soils.
These tests are:
1. Water content determination,
2. Liquid limit and Plastic limit determination,
3. Specific Gravity determination,
4. Grain size analysis,
5. Undrained Triaxial tests, and
6. Unconfined compressive strength test.
The results obtained from the above mentioned tests are tabulated and are here-
with presented. Grain size distribution curves of soils of different depths of the borehole are
appended in this report.

CONCLUSION
The result data presented in this report may help structure of Designer in
designing the foundation of the proposed structure.
Standard penetration test has been standardized by ASTM D 1586-
67(1976) and consist in -
1. Driving the standard split-tube sampler.
2. Distance of 18 in (45.52 cm) into the soil at the bottom of a bore hole.
3. Counting the number of blows to drive the last 12 in (This is N number of
SPT Test)
4. Using a 140 lb (63.5 Kg) drive weight.
5. Falling 30 in (76.2 cm).

Recommended allowable being capacity may be taken as follow table for

proposed building.
