OUTLINE:

 DEFINITION OF BRANCH CIRCUIT

 DIVISION OF BRANCH CIRCUIT INTO ITS COMPONENT
 THE CIRCUIT BREAKER AND THE FUSE
 ADVANTAGES OF CIRCUIT BREAKER OVER A FUSE
 ADVANTAGES OF A FUSE OVER A CIRCUIT BREAKER
 THE PANEL BOARD
 THE PRINCIPLES APPLIED IN INSTALLING THE PANEL BOARD
 SERVICE ENTRANCE
 THE OVERHEAD SERVICE ENTRANCE
 THE UNDERGROUND SERVICE ENTRANCE

SPEAKER: ENGR. ALFREDO P. GADAYAN Jr.

The seminar started by Engr. Gadayan defining what the branch circuit is
as defined in the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) and then he go into discussing
about the division of branch circuit into its component like breaker and fuse.
After this he discussed what the circuit breaker and fuse is and how important
it is to know their functions. The next thing is he discussed each of their
advantages over the other. During this part he tells us a story about his
experience as a fresh graduate and how he applied and assigned as a clerk in a
company. In this time when his boss called him and tell him to trip on of the
breaker he was shocked because it was new to him and he don’t know what is
what. He told us this story to let us know that as a fresh graduate you really
would encounter things you haven’t encountered before and its normal not to
know anything yet. Then after that he proceed his lesson on panel board and the
service entrance. Sadly, the seminar ended earlier due to time constraint and we
were not able to completely discuss all of the supposed topic in that seminar.

Engr. Gadayan is a good speaker with a sense of humour. He started his

seminar by telling us a story about a woman that is being abused by her
mother in law. The woman search for advice and a way to kill her mother in
law. To make the long story short the story ended with the woman became
close to her mother in law. The story was great it was able to make us focused
on what he is saying and that made us interested and awake during the
seminar. He is also good at breaking the ice with some jokes preventing us to
being bored.

The topic itself is very informative especially for us in the field of

electrical engineering. Branch circuit is actually could be included in design
and having a knowledge about this is an advantage for us, this topic would also
be beneficial to any of those who listen as this give them basic idea about the
protections and information about the branch circuit.
I can say that the overall performance of the group was good. They were
able to prepare the venue neatly. Cleaned the room with a proper sound and a
nice setup of projector and some backdrop. The overall performance was good.
OUTLINE:

 ELECTRICAL BUS BAR SYSTEM & SUBSTATION LAYOUT

 THE MAIN CRITERIA’S TO BE CONSIDERED DURING
SELECTION OF ONE PARTICULAR BUS – BAR ARRANGEMENT
SCHEME AMONG OTHERS
 SINGLE BUS SYSTEM
 SINGLE BUS SYSTEM WITH BUS SECTIONALIZER.
 DOUBLE BUS SYSTEM
 DOUBLE BREAKER BUS SYSTEM
 ONE AND A HALF BREAKER BUS SYSTEM
 MAIN AND TRANSFER BUS SYSTEM
 SWITCHING OPERATION FOR TRANSFERRING A FEEDER TO
TRANSFER BUS FROM MAIN BUS WITHOUT INTERRUPTION
OF POWER.
 DOUBLE BUS SYSTEM WITH BYPASS ISOLATORS
 RING BUS SYSTEM

SPEAKER: ENGR. LEONARD PETER P. SAMILLANO

The topic was a very informative one. Engr. Samillno discussed about the
types of bus bars or bus bars configuration, their advantages and this
advantages. Basically what I learned was about different arrangement of bus
system, single bus configuration, single bus system with bus sectionalizer,
double bus system, etc. and the advantages and disadvantages of each
configuration. For what I learned is that the commonly used bus system is the
ring bus system and the simplest configuration is the single bus system. Single
bus advantages is that it is simple and can be easily understood than other
configuration which has a complex structure. But compared to other structure
single bus system is disadvantageous when it comes to protection and
interruption matters.

Engr. Samillano is a good speaker. This topic is a bit complex and would
require the speaker to simplify it to make his audience understand what this is
about. Engr. Samillano was able to explain this topic that his student were able
to grasp the idea about this topic.

The topics discussed was very important in the transmission and

distribution sector. It is an informative topic especially for an engineering
student/engineer like us as it gives us a knowledge about the bus bar sytem and
substation layout which would be helpful later when we started working in our
field of work . I know that some of us would someday be able to be employed in
the distribution or transmission sector and this topic will be a handy information
for us. Overall this topic is very important and informative.
I can say that the group hosted this event or seminar was well
prepared the overall performance of the group was good. Cleaned the
room with a proper sound.
OUTLINE:

 THE OBJECTIVE OF A GROUNDING SYSTEM

 THREE MAIN TYPES OF GROUNDING
EQUIPMENT GROUNDING (SAFETY)
SYSTEM GROUNDING
LIGHTNING/SURGE GROUNDING
 SOIL CHARACTERISTICS
 STEP AND TOUCH VOLTAGES
 GROUND TESTING METHODS
 METHODS OF DECREASING GROUND RESISTANCE

SPEAKER: ENGR. PABLITO L. BANTOLO

I learned about this seminar are the importance of grounding and some
technical words and some calculations. Engr. Pablito Bantolo discussed some
basic ways in grounding, their types and how we can perform grounding. I also
learned in this seminar about the soil characteristics. Step potential and touch
potential was also discussed in this seminar step potential is a potential
generated because of the distance in the person’s feet, while touch potential is
from the distance above the live wire. Different ways to test grounding were also
discussed one way is to measure soil resistivity which is using a special kind of
equipment. The final topic was about the different method on decreasing ground
resistance, one common way of this is to increase the number of grounding rod
to decrease resistance and have more contact with the ground. One way also is
to use a special kind of rod which is infused whith chemical ant it’s called chem-
rod.

Engr. Pablito Bantolo is an interesting speaker. With his unorthodox style

of speaking which usually has a high volume of sound will get your attention to
what he is saying. I believe that he is also knowledgeable in whatever question
you ask him considering he is also a law graduate.

Grounding is a basic operation but is a very important one. Learning this

in seminar could save us a bunch of problems later due to improper grounding
and being unknowledgeable about this topic. That is why this topic is very useful
for us especially we are in the field of electricity. Proper grounding could save a
life and an improper grounding could take it away, that’s how important
grounding is.
For the overall performance of the group I could say that they have
prepared this seminar nicely and it was a successful one. The room was cleaned
and the lighting was good the sound is clear though due to the fluctuation in the
voltage at CEA building sometimes the speaker is a bit choppy. The projector
was also good. Overall it was a nice preparation and was a successful seminar.

OUTLINE:

 EMPLOYMENT
 BUSINESS
 PHILIPPINES TYCOONS

SPEAKER: ENGR. ADONIS E. ESMENOS

This topic didn’t just made me learn something but it also made me realize
that there are many opportunity out there outside employment. We all know that
not everyone will have a chance to be employed and also, employment would
make us money but it’s not enough for us to meet our financial freedom.
Alternatives to learning such as business or entrepreneurship give us an
opportunity to be able to free ourselves in this rat race everyone is unaware of.
This topic inspired me to look for opportunity outside the employment. Upon
hearing the stories about the tycoon here in the Philippines which started low
and having no money at all but later become one of the richest man like Henry
SY, Gokongwei, Jack Ma and Lucio Tan I was inspired by their story these tycoon
were not a college graduate but they were able to overcome their poverty and
made their way to one of the richest people here in Asia.

Engr. Esmenos was a good speaker during the seminar. He has outlined
his speech in a way that you really would be interested in listening. Engr.
Esmenos have always been a good speaker and/or teacher providing his listener
a very informative speech in a way that they will clearly understand.

The topic discussed were very helpful not only for us as a graduating
student but it could also be an eye opener or serves as an inspiration for anyone
who wants to meet their freedom in financial matters. This topic is both an
inspirational and informative topic.

The preparation was done nicely. The room was clean and there were some
designs. The speaker used was good it was audible and the sound was clear. The
setup of the projector was also good. Overall it was a nice preparation.
