Issa Names

Issa noticed photos of children on the board and began pointing at them and trying to say their names. Issa was able to clearly identify the photos of their friends and didn't want to leave. The teacher observed that Issa has developed relationships with the other children and their language is growing. Issa's next learning goal will be language as they have now developed a sense of belonging at their school.

Issa Names

Look at all my friends!


Issa, today when we were coming in from outside
you noticed the photos of the children on the board. You began to point and tried to say
children's names. You were so excited to see your friends pictures! And then you even
spotted your own picture! The teachers were trying to get the children into the classroom,
but you didn't want to go! I stood with you and repeated the children's names as you
pointed. Issa, you know the children and have relationships with them. You could clearly
identify their photos. Your language is also growing. Issa, you took an interest and drew
me into to your experience. Your learning goal has been belonging, soon it will be reviewed
and I think language will be your next learning focus. You have a sense of belonging at An-
nur now, your know your friends and are learning their names. You trust the teachers and
are familiar with the routines . You are definitely enjoying mat times and love singing. I’m
sure Miriam will be a great role model for you as she loves reading and making up stories,
I’m sure she has read with you heaps of times. Your environment is rich in language both
English and Arabic and I know that soon you will be able to say all the children's names and
lots of other new words too. The look on your face says it all Issa today you delighted in
learning the children's names and loved interacting with me.

I will make a photo book with all the children's photos and names in for the book shelf so
that you can see them whenever you want! We will continue to play name games as well
this will help you hear, and try the sounds in the names.
