Hydrostatic Force on Plane Surfaces


• When analyzing hydrostatic forces on submerged
surfaces, the atmospheric pressure can be
subtracted for simplicity when it acts on both sides
of the structure.
• Three
characteristics of
hydrostatic forces
will be evaluated:
• magnitude,
• direction, and
• location.
