Subject: MATHEMATICS GRADE 4
Grade/Section: Grade 4 / Aquarius STEM
Teaching Date and Time: September 23 (8:30-9:30) – Aquarius STEM
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of the concepts of parallel and
perpendicular lines, angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals.
B. Performance Standards: The learner is able to construct and describe parallel and perpendicular
lines, angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals in designs, drawings and models.
CG Code: M4GE-lllb-15
III. LEARNING RESOURCES:
Learning Resources:
.Mathematics 4 Learner’s Material pages 160-162
Materials: Real objects, models of shapes, different shapes cut-outs
IV. PROCEDURES:
a.Preliminary Activities:
Prayer
Greetings
Checking of Attendance
This time may I request the first group to please stand and show your cut-out shapes.
What have you noticed class? How many line segments/ sides in the cut outs they are holding? (3)
What about the endpoints of the line segments? What have you observed? (They are joined)
Yes they are joined, and so what can you say about the figure? (It is a closed figure)
Let’s observe the second set of cut-outs, Please stand up group 2 .How many segments/ sides can
you see in the cut-outs they are holding? (4)
Give the same follow-up questions. Then say you must have observed similarization and
dissimilarization in the 2 sets of presentations.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 1
Give me the similarities that you have seen in the two sets of presentations.(Both have line
segments/sides. Both are closed figures.
What about the dissimilarities? (They differ in the number of sides/line segments. The sizes also of
the cut-outs are not the same.
You are right! And the class, the portion where the line segments meet, there is an angle formed. In
our future lessons, we will discuss more about this.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 2
Present another set of materials. (Colored pictures with different sizes of triangular and
quadrilateral shapes.)
Class; group the colored pictures according to their shapes.
Oh! I like what you did. You did it right. How many sides are there in the pictures in Set A? (3). Okay,
figures, objects, pictures with 3 sides are called TRIANGLE. Tri- means 3.
What about in set B? (4).-Pictures, objects, pictures with 4 sides are called quadrilaterals.
Practical Applications: Look around, what objects in the classroom have triangular shapes?
-With 4 sides: door, windows, walls, tables, erasers etc.
-With 3 sides: picture found in the chart, pictures found in the notebook cover, designs in the
classroom decorations have these shapes.
Valuing: What if all objects, materials, decorations have only one shape? (very dull, different
shapes add beauty)
Let’s go back to the activities that we had since the start of the class.
What concepts, or what shape did we learn?(Triangular and quadrilateral)
How many sides the triangle has? Quadrilateral? (3,4 sides)
What can you remember about their end points? (joined)
And so, what kind of figures are triangles and quadrilaterals? (closed figures)
What formed in the portions where the line segments meet? (angles)
Yes, and class, these line segments and angles are properties are properties of a triangle and
quadrilateral.
Triangles and quadrilaterals are called Polygons.
Based on our discussions class, what can you say now about polygons? Polygons are closed figures
made up of three or more line segments joined at their end points.
What about a triangle? Quadrilateral?
--A triangle is a polygon with 3 sides and 3 angles.
--A quadrilateral is a polygon with 4 sides and 4 angles.
What are the attributes/properties of triangles and quadrilaterals? (line segments or sides and
angles)
I. Evaluating learning:
Directions: Which of the following best describes the given object? Select the best answer from the given
choices. Write only the letter.
____________3.)
a.) a plain figure made up 3 lines segment joined at the end point with 2
angles.
b.) a plain figure made up of 3 line segment joined at the end point with 3
angles.
c.) a plain figure made up of 4 line segment joined at the endpoint with 3
angles.
d.) a plain figure made up of 4 lines segment joined at the end point with 4
angles.
____________4.)
Do what is asked creatively Do the activity on Page 161 of Learning Materials-apply your skills’.
