Cell Model Project

1. Students are assigned a project to construct a model of either an animal or plant cell out of materials of their choosing to demonstrate their understanding of cell structures. 2. The required structures that must be included in each model are listed, with 10 structures required for each of the plant and animal cell models. 3. Students will present their completed cell models by a set due date, and the models will be graded based on a provided rubric evaluating the inclusion and labeling of required cell structures.

1ºESO-BIOLOGY AND GEOLOGY

THE INCREDIBLE CELL – PROJECT

In Science models are used to make complex ideas easier to understand. To

demonstrate your knowledge of plant and animal cells you are to construct a model
that adheres to the following guidelines.

1. In pairs, choose to make a plant or animal cell.

2. The cell must include the following structures:

Plant Cell: cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, vacuole, chloroplasts,
rough endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, golgi complex, mitochondria

Animal Cell: cell membrane, cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, nucleus, lysosome,

vacuole, rough endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, golgi complex, mitochondria

3. The choice of medium is open. Students have made play doh or clay models, edible
models, styrofoam models, fabric models, mobiles.

4. The cell must be identified as plant or animal. Each organelle must be fully labeled
with name and function or numbered and identified using a key containing full name
and function. Grading rubric is attached.

5. All the projects start on………………………………….At the laboratory and are due on
…………………………………………………….. Make sure that you bring all the materials
needed.

6. Use your imaginations and have fun!
