What is Linen?
Linen is a textile made from the fibers used generically to describe a class of woven and even
knitted expensive textiles that has a long “staple” (individual fiber length) in Housekeeping
department.
1. Blanket- a large piece of cloth often soft, woolen, and is used for warmth as a bed cover.
2. Throw Blanket- smaller than a regular blanket used to add extra warmth at the foot of
the bed or when wrapped around your shoulders.
3. Top Sheet- or flat sheet that separates from comforter or blanket
4. Bottom Sheet- or fitted sheet with the elastic edge that fits over your mattress.
5. Mattress Pad- also called mattress topper or underpad used above the mattress and
beneath a bottom sheet to add comfort.
6. Draw Sheet/Mackintosh- is a waterproof sheeting made up of either rubber or plastic
material to protect the mattress and bottom sheet from soiling that are drawn from side
to side usually extends from the clients shoulders to below knees. It can be cotton,
rubber or plastic.
7. Comforter- is a bed cover stuffed with fibers or down for warmth and then sewn
together on all four sides. Comforters are available in a nearly endless range of colors,
patterns and styles.
8. Bed skirt/ Dust ruffle/valence- it is a decorative piece of fabric placed between the
mattress and box springs. It extends to the floor at the mattress sides and bottom which
the main function is to hide the box spring but bed skirts also add a touch of softness,
color and décor to the room.
9. Rubber Sheet- used for protect mattresses from bed wetting other moisture and dust.
Vinyl covers – protect the bed from urine and other fluids spills, dust mites and
bed bugs.
Polyurethane covers- more high tech for breathable and more comfortable for
sleeping.
Anchor band mattress pad- the popular waterproof that covers the entire top
mattress surface and stay in place with an elastic anchor band in each corner. It
is easy to put on and take off. It fits any depth mattress including sofa beds or
irregular shaped beds.

11. Pillow Sham- are decorative coverings for pillows, often designed with trims, ruffles,
flanges or cording.

13. Bedspread- is a thin, decorative covering that normally covers the entire be and touches
the floor. Cotton, chenille, wool or polyester are common materials.
14. Coverlet- is a decorative fabric covering that does not touch the floor and normally does
not cover the pillows.
15. Duvets- is similar to a comforter except it requires the use of a duvet cover, where a
comforter does not and typically solid white and stuffed with down or down
alternatives.
16. Duvets covers- like an envelope, it has an opening where the duvet is inserted. Once
placed inside, the opening is closed with buttons or occasionally a zipper. It also takes
the place of a top sheet.
17. Cushion- is a soft bag of some ornamental materials, stuffed with wool, hair, feathers,
polyester staple fiber, non-woven material or even paper torn into fragments that may
use for sitting or kneeling upon or to soften the hardness or angularity of a chair or
couch.
