WORK METHOD

FOR DUCTING INSTALLATION

I. INFORMATION
Ducting installation at JGC Indonesia's Office Building Project include work procurement and
ducting installation from BJLS material and ducting from rigid polyurethane material. Ducting
installation using BJLS for exhaust duct in basement-2 and basement-1, pressurized riser
duct, exhaust duct at toilets, fresh air duct, exhaust duct for smoke extract, while duct
installation using polyurethane material for supply AC from FCU units. The conclusion,
cooling unit for the building is VRV system (Variable Refrigerant Volume) that work based
on refrigerant variable for regulating cooling load in conditioned room. for computer room
using precision AC type that can regulate humidity and room temperature as desired. For
panel room, elevator engine room, and control room are served by split type AC.

III. SUPPORTING NEEDS

A. Labor
The labor used to carry out air conditioning system work are:
- AC unit installation = 4 person
- Ducting installation = 10 person
- Fan installation = 2 person
- AC pipe installation = 4 person

B. Main Material
Main material that used for duct installation are BJLS 50~ BJLS 80 and Polyurethane
density : 52 +/-2kg/m³, aluminum thickness 75 micron, polyurethane thickness 20mm.

1
C. Auxiliary Materials and Equipment
Auxiliary materials used in air conditioning work include: UNP 50x50x5 mm and 40x40x3
mm, long drat 10 and 8 mm, corners, clips, nuts + ring plates, bolts, gaskets, zinc
cromate paint, white paint, sealants, wires welding, aibon glue, M10 dynaset & M8
dynaset and polyurethane ducting accessories.
While the work equipment used is:
 Electric welding machine = Tool for making support / flange for ducting.
 Hand drill machine = Tool for making holes in canal and angle iron
 Hand grinding machine = Tool for leveling cut marks on pipes and channel iron/
elbows
 Lock machine = Tool to form the ducting crease angle for BJLS ducting connections
 Speed Cutter Machine = Tool for cutting channel/ elbow iron
 Hammers and chisels = Tools for breaking walls or floors
 Pipe Wrenches = Tool for connecting pipes or nuts/ bolts
 Cutter = Tool for cutting polyurethane ducting

IV. WORK IMPLEMENTATION

The implementation of air conditioning work begins with the ducting fabrication planned
for the 2nd week of October 2009 and ends at the end of March 2010.

V. WORK PROCEDURES
A. Preparatory Work
The things that must be prepared before starting work are:
 Make sure the working picture used has received approval from the Owner / MK.
 Make sure the main material to be used has been approved by the Owner / MK.
 Make sure the main material, auxiliary material, and all work equipment are available.
 Make sure the work permit has been approved by the Owner / MK.
 Make sure the work area is really ready to use.
 Ensure that all workers already know and understand the rules that apply in the project
environment.

B. Work steps
1. Measure the length of the hanger needed for the previously exposed area in the
zinkromate and paint finish while for the above ceiling color remains galvanized, then
under the slab marking to position it in the drill and install a new dynaset then a hanger
is installed.
2. Install vertical and horizontal ducting for BJLS type exposed area basement-2 &
basement-1 floor after being painted base and paint finish, ducting is installed/ placed
on a support that has been installed in the field. For vertical BJLS ducting/ riser after
assembling, it will be installed after the support inside the shaft is fixed to the fixed
position.
3. Attach the connection after each section sits supported by the hanger and then each
corner is fitted with nuts and bolts as a fastener and between the sections has been
installed rubber first.
4. Attach the ducting sleeve, every ducting that has penetrated the wall before opening
has been installed, the size is bigger than the ducting diameter, after finishing the gap
between the opening and ducting will be filled with rock wool
5. Install the grille after the ducting installation is complete and the ceiling is finished, the
grille will be installed on the plenum box above the ceiling.
6. Install the equipment, before the equipment is installed marking in the slab field drilled
plug dynaset, hangers and new rubber mounting VRV units are installed according to
the designated place, then connected to the ducting supply using a flexible joint
canvas.

Remarks Attachment Working drawings:

1. Figure no.1: Ways of folding and connecting BJLS ducting for sizes 0 ~ 350 mm using
the insert system and each insertion angle is sealed using a special ducting sealant to
prevent leakage.
2. Image no.2: Explain how to connect BJLS ducting for sizes 351 ~ 1350 mm using a
corner and clips system (U-Cup Cover) and each corner of the hollow corner is closed
using a special sealant for ducting to prevent leakage.
3. Image no.3: Explain how to connect BJLS ducting to size 1351 ~ 2100 mm. Using a
flange system with elbow size of 40 x 40 x 4 mm and rivet Ø 4 mm as a union between
the elbow and ducting BJLS, while connecting one and the next section between the

3
two flanges so as not to leak using rubber that is glued with aibon glue then clamped
using nuts and bolts Ø 8 mm long and 20 mm.
4. Figure no.4: Ways to connect pre-insulated aluminum ducting types to prevent leakage
in the inner side connection angles use special sealents referenced by the TD Duct, for
the outer corner the duct tape is used, in each inner corner of the cover angle also
sealed to prevent leakage.
5. Image no. 5: Ways of making 45 ° and 90 ° elbows.
6. Figure no.6 & 7: Methods of mounting or jointing of ducting, flexible joint aluminum,
planum box, and diffucer / Grille are also explained by the system or method of
hanging using a 8 mm Ø ranger hanger which is zinkromated and painted white to
exposed area and use the Ø8 mm service anchor in the slab
7. Figure no.8: Ways to install exhaust air grille and smoke air grille, and how to install
the hanger support.
8. Figure no.9 & 10: Ways of mounting Horizontal Ducting BJLS and Polyurethane,
Elbow as buffer diameter is adjusted to the standard in RKS, Duct hanger as a hanger
and dynaset adjusted to the standard in RKS.
For BJLS duct as explained in RKS size:
0 mm ~ 300 mm = BJLS 50
301 mm ~ 750 mm = BJLS 60
751 mm ~ 1,351mm = BJLS 70
1351 mm ~ 2,100mm = BJLS 80 and
2101 mm ~ more = BJLS 100

For ducting iron elbows as explained in the WPC it must not be less than:
Type Iron Elbow Rod Duct Size (thick) Distance between
(mm) (mm) (mm) hanger (m)
A 30x30x3 8 0 - 750 2
B 40x40x3 8 751 - 1500 2
C 50x50x3 10 1500 - 2100 2

C. Quality Control

The implementation of the air conditioning work is supervised by a supervisor to ensure

that the installed air conditioning installation is in accordance with the approved work
drawings with quality that is in accordance with the Technical RKS of Mechanical Works
pages AC-1 to AC-23 and the RMP standard of PT.Tatamulia N.I. chapter 11 article 32.

VI. ANALYSIS OF WORK RISK AND PREVENTION

 Occupational risks
Ducting installed at a height of more than 2 meters is necessary to use a sacfolding or
ladder to avoid falling from the height must be prepared safety belt and helmet. Make
sure the work belt or safety belt has been tied to the correct and strong position.
