Errata

Important Issues
Use of Riser card with 66MHz Products
Before using a riser card, please review AMCC’s customer advisory PDF at the following link:
http://www.3ware.com/products/pdf/TWCA001_1003.pdf to identify compatibility issues between
certain controllers and chipsets.

CLI reports inaccurate or confusing messages

CLI does not provide clear and concise information on why a rebuild failed to start. When a
rebuild command fails make sure that the controller and drives are available, the proper drive(s) and
unit(s) are selected and the array is not already rebuilding.
CLI reports 0% when issuing the rebuildstatus, verifystatus or initializestatus command to a
non-redundant array. This is normal operation for CLI.

CLI reports “No Controller Found”

CLI may report this error message if an older driver or firmware is loaded or if the driver is not
installed. Please make sure you are using the Software 7.7.1 released CLI, driver and firmware.

CLI “maint add” command changed

The “maint rescan” or “maint createunit” command has replaced the “main add” command with
enhanced functionality. To add a port, use rescan. Rescan can also help bring a JBOD on a port
back on-line. In case a spare needs to be created, simply use the createunit command.

Boot of SuSE Linux 8.1 fails

Upgrade to SuSE 8.2 and higher or start SuSE 8.1 with the “noapic” option and the boot should
proceed normally. This only happens with certain motherboards.

Note
Parted extends the 2TB partition limit on Linux 2.6
Current Linux “fdisk” versions have a partition size limit of 2TB. Use the “Parted” tool for
partition sizes greater than 2TB.

Advanced Tips

Upgrading 3DM
When upgrading 3DM from an older version under Windows, all information in the Alarms pages
will be lost. Save a copy of the Alarms pages locally, before upgrading.

Importing units under CLI

Only JBOD arrays can be added/imported/removed on the fly using the CLI. Other array types such
as RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 10 can only be removed but not added back until you reboot.

Unable to change 3DM options with SuSE 8.1 browser

This is a SuSE operating system anomaly. AMCC recommends upgrading to the SuSE Linux 8.2
operating system and higher. An added advantage of using SUSE 8.2 is that it provides built in
support for the console message “modprobe block-major-65” when 3DM is running.

Unable to install 3ware controller as the primary storage under FreeBSD

Installing FreeBSD 4.8 on certain motherboards using the default 3ware drivers built into the
FreeBSD 4.8 distribution may not function properly and prevent the 3ware controller from becoming
the primary boot controller in that system. If you have problem installing the 3ware controller as the
boot device, please contact 3ware Customer Support at www.3ware.com/support/index.asp or at (800)
945-7273 or at 408-523-1111. For further information, please visit our web site at
