INTRODUCTION
Heavy Industries Taxila was envisaged in the early seventies and its first production unit i.e.
Heavy Rebuild Factory (T-Series) went into production in1980. This was followed in the early
nineties by a number of other factories and today HIT has grown into a military industrial
complex which consists of Six Major Production Units, Support Facilities and Administrative
Establishment.
HIT Background

Mission:
Manufacture, Rebuild, Upgrade & Develop Tanks, Tank Guns & APCs.
Utilize surplus capacity of factories to meet requirements of civil sector and friendly
countries.

Artillery
Talha - APC based on M113 chassis with 5 road wheels, accommodates 11 fully equipped
troops. 250 delivered to the Pakistan Army by 2006.
Saad - APC based on the Talha design. Modified with extended hull and 6 road wheels, 14.5 mm
machine gun, improved armour protection and a more powerful engine supplied by
Germany's MTU. Accommodates 13 fully equipped troops.
Al-Hamza - Infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) based on the Saad APC, fitted with 25 mm automatic
cannon, an export product not in service with the Pakistan Army.
Maaz - Based on the Talha APC, armed with the Baktar-Shikan anti-tank guided
missile (ATGM) launcher and operated by a crew of 4. There is capacity for 8 extra rounds and
the missile firing unit on the roof is retracted into the cabin for reloading.
Mouz - Based on the Talha APC, armed with either the RBS 70 or Anza I/II air-defence missile
systems. The missile firing unit on the roof is retracted into the cabin for reloading.

TECHNICAL DIRECTORATE
Technical Directorate is responsible for industrial output, Training, Quality Assurance and
Internship programme. Industrial units are divided into Manufacturing Factories, Armoured
Rebuild Facilities, Engineering Support Facilities, AARDIC (Advance Armour Systems
Research and Development, Information and Integration Centre.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
HIT follows the total quality management (TQM) concept for ensuring the quality output. The
final product is subjected to the most difficult trials on the HIT test track. HIT has also acquired
ISO Certification for 3 of its factories. The others are also in the process of achieving this

landmark.
