desktop A desktop environment (sometimes desktop manager) offers a graphical user interface (GUI) to the
computer. A desktop typically provides icons, windows, tool bars, folders, wallpapers, and abilities
like drag and drop. The design and function of a desktop environment usually endow it with a
distinctive look and feel.
GLP: Good Lab Practice Generally refers to a system of management controls for laboratories and research organizations
to ensure the consistency and reliability of results as outlined in the OECD Principles of GLP and
national regulations. GLP embodies a set of principles that provides a framework within which
laboratory studies are planned, performed, monitored, recorded, reported and archived. GLP helps
assure regulatory authorities that the data submitted are a true reflection of the results obtained
during the study and can therefore be relied upon when making risk/safety assessments.
icon An image, picture, or representation. A sign or likeness that stands for an object by signifying or
representing it.
menu: drop-down and pull-down A menu is a list of commands presented to an operator by a computer or communications system.
They are primarily shortcuts to frequently used commands. A computer using a GUI presents menus
with a combination of text and symbols to represent choices. By clicking on one of the symbols,
the operator is selecting the instruction that the symbol represents. A context menu is a menu in
which the choices presented to the operator are automatically modified according to the current
context in which the operator is working. A common use of menus is to provide convenient access
to various operations such as saving or opening a file, quitting a program, or manipulating data.
Most interfaces provide a pull-down or pop-up menu. Pull-down menus are commonly used in menu
bars (usually near the top of a window or screen), which are most often used for performing
actions; pop-up menus are more likely to be used for setting a value, and might appear anywhere
in a window.
pane A pane is a sectioned window on a graphical display. Examples of this usage include a file browser
with multiple panels.
tab A navigational method for switching between documents. Traditionally designed as a text label
within a rectangular box with its top borders rounded. Activating a tab (usually by a mouse click)
makes its associated document visible and the tab itself usually becomes highlighted to distinguish
it from other inactive tabs. Generally, only one tab can be active at a time.
window A visual area, usually rectangular in shape, containing some kind of user interface, displaying the
output of and allowing input for one of a number of simultaneously running computer processes.
Windows are primarily associated with graphical displays, where they can be manipulated with a
pointer. A GUI that includes windows is called a windowing system.
workstation A high-end desktop or deskside microcomputer designed for technical applications. Workstations
are intended primarily to be used by one person at a time, although they can usually also be
accessed remotely by other users when necessary.
You must read and understand and follow the safety requirements and notifications in this chapter before using the iScan Coreo Au
slide scanner.

Cyber Security
Any device that is connected to a network (internally or externally) has the potential to be compromised by unauthorized access or
viruses. As with most devices, iScan Coreo Au is designed to run on a computer utilizing Microsoft Windows and virus protection
software which requires the validation and implementation of the appropriate patches.
To connect to iScan Coreo Live from outside the internal network, use virtual private network (VPN) access.
Cyber security involves protecting data by preventing, detecting, and responding to malicious cyber attacks. Cyber attacks could
involve computer viruses which can completely erase data or hackers who alter files or even use the device as a host to attack other
devices. As serious as these hazards are, steps can be taken to maximize cyber security.
User Authorization
All iScan Coreo Au users must login with a valid username and password. The username and password are securely transmitted in
encrypted form over the internet or intranet. Once a user has logged in, the user remains active in the application until the user
explicitly logs out, closes the browser (used with the Live application), or because the application closes after a period of inactivity.
Network security consists of the provisions made in the computer network infrastructure, policies adopted by the network
administrator to protect the network, and the network resources that prevent unauthorized access.
The following are critical steps and methodologies used to secure network and servers:
• Data protection
• Data backups (at regular intervals)
• Refusal of automatic updates from off-the-shelf software
• Antivirus software for computers and servers
Protecting Data
Establishment of a network firewall and protection of the network against viruses using anti-virus software are effective methods to
protect data. Virus definitions should be kept up to date and regular scans of computers for spyware should be performed using a
legitimate anti-spyware application. If viruses or spyware are found, remove them immediately.
The default settings of most software enable all available functionality. However, hackers may be able to take advantage of this
functionality to access devices. It is especially important to check the settings for software that connects to the internet (browsers,
email clients, etc.). Apply the highest level of security available that still provides needed functionality.
In order to develop a successful backup and recovery plan, comprehension of data accessibility needs and the potential impact of
data loss is essential. Automatic backup procedures need to be adopted using a data backup utility.
Environmental Specifications
Use The scanner is intended for use indoors in an office or lab environment, with a standard
connection to the MAINS electric power supply (115V/20A or 230V/16A). The unit falls under

SlideName_Rack#_Slot#_DateStamp.FileExtension
The Date Stamp delimiter is a dash or an underscore as in the following example:
biotest0812_7_1_20080813.jp2
Note: The Rack# and Slot# are not required if you edit and create your own filenames:
SlideName_DateStamp.FileExtension (for example, biotest0812_20080813.jp2).
Append Time Stamp A time stamp (in Military time format) is appended to a filename and consists of the
following information:
SlideName_Rack#_Slot#_TimeStamp.FileExtension
The Time Stamp delimiter is a dash or an underscore as in the following example:
biotest0812_7_1_1437.jp2
Note: The Rack# and Slot# are not required if you edit and create your own filenames:
SlideName_TimeStamp.FileExtension (for example, biotest0812_1437.jp2).
Create New Folder for Each Group A subfolder named after an assigned folder name is created by the scanner in the output
directory. All slides associated with the assigned folder name are placed in the subfolder.
Apply Barcode as Filename The barcode on the label of a slide is used to form the filename of a slide and consists of
the following information:
Barcode_DateTimeStamp.FileExtension
The following barcode filename examples includes 1D and 2D barcodes:
1D: 20761234_201008131437.jp2
2D: 20761234_HER2_201008131437.jp2

iii SINGLE-USER LICENSE: If you are using the Materials under the control of a Single- User license, you as an individual may install and use the
Materials on an unlimited number of computers provided that you are the only individual using the Materials and only one copy of the Materials is in
use at any one time. A separate license is required for each additional use and/or individual user in all other cases. Intel will provide you with a license
code key that enables the Materials for a Single-User license. If you obtained a time-limited Single-User license, the duration (time period) of your
license and your ability to use the Materials is limited to the time period of the obtained license, which is controlled by the license key code for the
Materials. If you are an entity, Intel grants you the right to designate one individual within your organization to have the sole right to use the Materials
in the manner provided above.
iv NODE-LOCKED LICENSE: If you are using the Materials under the control of a Node- Locked license, you may use the Materials only on a single
designated computer by no more than the authorized number of concurrent users. A separate license is required for each additional concurrent user
and/or computer in all other cases. Intel will provide you with a license code key that enables the Materials for a Node-Locked license up to the
authorized number of concurrent users. If you obtained a time-limited Node-Locked license, the duration (time period) of your license and your
ability to use the Materials is limited to the time period of the obtained license, which is controlled by the license key code for the Materials.
v FLOATING LICENSE: If you are using the Materials under the control of a Floating license, you may (a) install the Materials on an unlimited
number of computers that are connected to the designated network and (b) use the Material by no more than the authorized number of concurrent
users. A separate license is required for each additional concurrent user and/or network on which the Materials are used. Intel will provide you with a
license code key that enables the Materials for a Floating license up to the authorized number of concurrent users. If you obtained a time-limited
Floating license, the duration (time period) of your license and your ability to use the Materials is limited to the time period of the obtained license,
which is controlled by the license key code for the Materials. Intel Library Floating License: If the Materials are the Intel(R) Math Kernel Library or
the Intel(R) Integrated Performance Primitives Library or the Intel(R) Threading Building Blocks (either "Intel Library"), then the Intel Library is
provided to you as an add-on option to either the Intel(R) C++ Compiler product or the Intel(R) Fortran Compiler product (either "Intel Compiler")
for which you have a Floating license, and as such, in addition to the terms and conditions above, the Intel Library may only be used by the
authorized concurrent users of that Intel Compiler Floating license.
d DISTRIBUTION: Distribution of the Redistributables is also subject to the following limitations: You (i) shall be solely responsible to your customers for
any update or support obligation or other liability which may arise from the distribution, (ii) shall not make any statement that your product is "certified", or
that its performance is guaranteed, by Intel, (iii) shall not use Intel's name or trademarks to market your product without written permission, (iv) shall use a
license agreement that prohibits disassembly and reverse engineering of the Redistributables, (v) shall not publish reviews of Materials designated as beta
without written permission by Intel, and (vi) shall indemnify, hold harmless, and defend Intel and its suppliers from and against any claims or lawsuits,
including attorney's fees, that arise or result from your distribution of any product.
e Intel(R) Integrated Performance Primitives (Intel IPP). The following terms and conditions apply only to the Intel IPP.
i Notwithstanding anything in this Agreement to the contrary, if you implement the Sample Sources in your application or if you use Intel IPP to
implement algorithms that are protected by others’ licenses then you may need additional licenses from various entities. Should any such additional
licenses be required, you are solely responsible for obtaining any such licenses and agree to obtain any such licenses at your own expense.
ii Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, a valid license to Intel IPP is a prerequisite to any license for Sample Source, and possession of
Sample Source does not grant any license to Intel IPP (or any portion thereof). To access Sample Source, you must first register your licensed copy of
the Intel IPP with Intel. By downloading, installing or copying any Sample Source file, you agree to be bound by terms of this Agreement.
f SOFTWARE TRANSFER: You may permanently transfer the Materials and all of your rights under this Agreement to another party (“Recipient”) only if
you notify Intel of the transfer by sending a letter to Intel certifying that you retain no copies of the Materials and that the Recipient has agreed in writing to
be bound by all of the terms and conditions of this Agreement. Please send such letter to:

agree to prevent any unauthorized copying of the Materials. Except as expressly provided herein, no license or right is granted to
you directly or by implication, inducement, estoppel or otherwise, specifically Intel does not grant any express or implied right to
you under Intel patents, copyrights, trademarks, or trade secret information.
THE MATERIALS AND INFORMATION ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITH NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED,
INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS, OR ANY WARRANTY
OTHERWISE ARISING OUT OF ANY PROPOSAL, SPECIFICATION, OR SAMPLE. If the media on which the Materials
are furnished are found to be defective in material or workmanship under normal use for a period of ninety (90) days from the date
of receipt, Intel's entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be the replacement of the media. This offer is void if the media
defect results from accident, abuse, or misapplication.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
THE ABOVE REPLACEMENT PROVISION IS THE ONLY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. INTEL OFFERS NO OTHER
WARRANTY EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED INCLUDING THOSE OF MERCHANTABILITY,
NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD- PARTY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE. NEITHER INTEL NOR ITS SUPPLIERS SHALL BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER
(INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION,
LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR OTHER LOSS) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE
SOFTWARE, EVEN IF INTEL HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE SOME
JURISDICTIONS PROHIBIT THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR
INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
UNAUTHORIZED USE
THE MATERIALS ARE NOT DESIGNED, INTENDED, OR AUTHORIZED FOR USE IN ANY TYPE OF SYSTEM OR
APPLICATION IN WHICH THE FAILURE OF THE MATERIALS COULD CREATE A SITUATION WHERE PERSONAL
INJURY OR DEATH MAY OCCUR (E.G MEDICAL SYSTEMS, LIFE SUSTAINING OR LIFE SAVING SYSTEMS). Should
the buyer purchase or use the Materials for any such unintended or unauthorized use, the buyer shall indemnify and hold Intel and
its officers, subsidiaries and affiliates harmless against all claims, costs, damages, and expenses, and reasonable attorney fees arising
out of, directly or indirectly, any claim of product liability, personal injury or death associated with such unintended or unauthorized
use, even if such claim alleges that Intel was negligent regarding the design or manufacture of the part.
USER SUBMISSIONS
You agree that any material, information or other communication you transmit or post to an Intel website or provide to Intel under
this Agreement related to the features, functions, performance or use of the Materials will be considered non-confidential and
nonproprietary ("Communications"). Intel will have no obligations with respect to the Communications. You agree that Intel and
its designees will be free to copy, modify, create derivative works, publicly display, disclose, distribute, license and sublicense through
multiple tiers of distribution and licensees, incorporate and otherwise use the Communications and all data, images, sounds, text,
and other things embodied therein, including derivative works thereto, for any and all commercial or non-commercial purposes. You
are prohibited from posting or transmitting to or from an Intel website or provide to Intel any unlawful, threatening, libelous,
defamatory, obscene, pornographic, or other material that would violate any law. If you wish to provide Intel with your confidential
information, Intel requires a non-disclosure agreement (“NDA”) to receive such confidential information, so please contact your
Intel representative to ensure the proper NDA is in place.
CONSENT
You agree that Intel, its subsidiaries or suppliers may collect and use technical and related information, including but not limited to
technical information about your computer, system and application software, and peripherals, that is gathered periodically to
facilitate the provision of software updates, product support and other services to you (if any) related to the Materials, and to verify
compliance with the terms of this Agreement. Intel may use this information, as long as it is in a form that does not personally
identify you, to improve our products or to provide services or technologies to you.
This Agreement becomes effective on the date you accept this Agreement and will continue until terminated as provided for in this
Agreement. If you are using the Materials under the control of a time-limited license, for example an Evaluation License, this
Agreement terminates without notice on the last day of the time period, which is controlled by the license key code for the Materials.
Intel may terminate this license immediately if you are in breach of any of its terms and conditions and such breach is not cured
within thirty (30) days of written notice from Intel. Upon termination, you will immediately return to Intel or destroy the Materials
and all copies thereof. Any distribution of the Redistributables conducted in accordance with the terms and conditions of this
Agreement shall survive termination of this Agreement.
The Materials are provided with "RESTRICTED RIGHTS". Use, duplication or disclosure by the Government is subject to
restrictions set forth in FAR52.227-14 and DFAR252.227-7013 et seq. or its successor. Use of the Materials by the Government
constitutes acknowledgment of Intel's rights in them.
APPLICABLE LAWS
Any claim arising under or relating to this Agreement shall be governed by the internal substantive laws of the State of Delaware,
without regard to principles of conflict of laws. You agree that the terms of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the
Sale of Goods do not apply to this Agreement. You agree that your distribution and export/re-export of the Software and permitted
modifications shall be in compliance with the laws, regulations, orders or other restrictions of applicable export laws.
The Materials may include third party programs or materials. The license terms with those programs or materials apply to your use
of them, and Intel is not liable for them.

use at any one time. A separate license is required for each additional use and/or individual user in all other cases. Intel will provide you with a license
code key that enables the Materials for a Noncommercial-Use license. If you obtained a time-limited Noncommercial-Use license, the duration (time
period) of your license and your ability to use the Materials is limited to the time period of the obtained license, which is controlled by the license key
code for the Materials. If you are an entity, Intel grants you the right to designate one individual within your organization to have the sole right to use
the Materials in the manner provided above.
iii SINGLE-USER LICENSE: If you are using the Materials under the control of a Single- User license, you as an individual may install and use the
Materials on an unlimited number of computers provided that you are the only individual using the Materials and only one copy of the Materials is in
use at any one time.
Intel Library Floating License: If the Materials are the Intel(R) Math Kernel Library or

for which you have a Floating license, and as such, in addition to the terms and conditions above, the Intel Library may only be used by the authorized
concurrent users of that Intel Compiler Floating license.
d DISTRIBUTION: Distribution of the Redistributables is also subject to the following limitations: You (i) shall be solely responsible to your customers for
any update or support obligation or other liability which may arise from the distribution, (ii) shall not make any statement that your product is "certified", or
that its performance is guaranteed, by Intel, (iii) shall not use Intel's name or trademarks to market your product without written permission, (iv) shall use a
license agreement that prohibits disassembly and reverse engineering of the Redistributables, (v) shall not publish reviews of Materials designated as beta
without written permission by Intel, and (vi) shall indemnify, hold harmless, and defend Intel and its suppliers from and against any claims or lawsuits,
including attorney's fees, that arise or result from your distribution of any product.
e Intel(R) Integrated Performance Primitives (Intel IPP).
By downloading, installing or copying any Sample Source file, you agree to be bound by terms of this Agreement.
f SOFTWARE TRANSFER: You may permanently transfer the Materials and all of your rights under this Agreement to another party (“Recipient”) only if
you notify Intel of the transfer by sending a letter to Intel certifying that you retain no copies of the Materials and that the Recipient has agreed in writing to

results from accident, abuse, or misapplication.
(INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION,
LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR OTHER LOSS) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE
THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF INTEL HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE
SOME JURISDICTIONS PROHIBIT THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR
INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
UNAUTHORIZED USE
THE MATERIALS ARE NOT DESIGNED, INTENDED, OR AUTHORIZED FOR USE IN ANY TYPE OF SYSTEM OR
APPLICATION IN WHICH THE FAILURE OF THE MATERIALS COULD CREATE A SITUATION WHERE

and hold Intel and its officers, subsidiaries and affiliates harmless against all claims, costs, damages, and expenses, and reasonable
attorney fees arising out of, directly or indirectly, any claim of product liability, personal injury or death associated with such
unintended or unauthorized use, even if such claim alleges that Intel was negligent regarding the design or manufacture of the part.

Introduction
As of ClearImage Rel 6.0 the procedure for the deployment of production software is separate from the installation of the SDK for
development of user applications.
The Production Deployment Kit (PDK) is different from the Software Development Kit (SDK). The PDK is absolutely required
for production operations and must be installed prior to license registration on the target computer. Conversely, the SDK does not
support production operations. The PDK contains the ClearImage engines and the License Manager application. To deploy the
software for production along with your user applications:
Note: The Licensing Manager refers to the PDK software as a PRODUCTION version.
Note: To preserve an existing version of the PDK, before you install the new version, you should rename that directory, or else the
new install will replace it. For example, rename it to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ClearImage_v5.6.3\. Later you will be able
to use the Licensing Manager to select which version to use in production.
Inlite provides an email with the download link to the PDK, under two circumstances:
1. After the purchase of a license from Inlite, you will receive an email with the license certificate and the download link.
2. In response to a customer support request which requires software download.
You are entitled to receive the latest software for the support period of your license. The support period means:
• One year after the purchase of the license
• More years or months of support that were purchased
For example, if support for your license expired in Sep 2008, then you would receive the latest download available till 30 Sep 2008.
Note: Recovering a lost license due to a crash, rebuild or some OS activity is not the same as requiring a software download. There
may be a charge for license recovery.
The ClearImage SDK contains the Demo application which you can use to test and understand various features and operations of
the ClearImage engines. The SDK also contains fully functional engines with APIs for development, as well as sample code. To
initiate development:
• Download the publicly available SDK from Inlite’s Web site
• Install the SDK, using the installation password
• The SDK will be installed in C:\Program Files\ClearImage\COM\eval\
• When you install a newer SDK, it will replace the previous SDK.
• See Tech Note 28 Operating Modes for details
The Rel 5.x SDK contained a User Distribution Kit (UDK). The UDK installed the ClearImage engines and the Licensing Manager.
For production purposes, either the SDK or UDK could be executed to install the engines on the target computer. Inlite will
continue to support the installation of Rel 5.x as follows:
• Rel 5.x software will continue to work as before.
• If new downloads of Rel 5.x are requested, the user may obtain either the Rel
5.x UDK for that period, or the latest Rel 6.x PDK, depending on the expiration date of support for that license.
• Users who distributed Rel 5.x SDKs for production should not update their production system with the Rel 6.x SDK, because it
cannot be used for production. Instead they should request the appropriate PDK or UDK download.
• Inlite will no longer deliver the Rel 5.x SDK, except by request, to customers who are under support.
