B. Preliminary Activity
“Okay class before we start our lesson, I want to (Student will raise their hands)
ask if you still remember our lesson yesterday?” “Yes ma’am! Our lesson yesterday was about
Plagiarism.”
“Alright, what do you remember about
plagiarism?” “Plagiarism is an act of copying or owning one’s
idea or words and presents it as yours but there
are different ways to avoid plagiarism such as
paraphrasing, citing, quoting and referencing.
“Very good! Okay thank you, you may take your
sit.” “Thank you ma’am.”

C. Motivation
“Alright so let’s take a look at these following
statements.
1. a. It can be difficult to choose a suitable
place to study English.
b. It is sometimes hard to select an
appropriate place to learn English.
2. a. Writing essays can be a challenging
task.
b. Writing essays can be a task which is
challenging.
“What do you notice in these following (Student will raise their hands)
statements?” “Statement 2 is a paraphrased statement of no. 1
“Yes____?” and statement no. 4 is a paraphrased statement of
no. 3”
“Alright very good! We called it paraphrasing
and that will be our topic of discussion today.”

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

D. Lesson Proper
“Now, based on these following statements, (Student will raise their hands)
what do you think is paraphrasing?” “Paraphrasing is rewriting or restating the
“Yes____?” statement’s idea in your own words based on
how I understand it.”
“Very good! Paraphrasing is to rewrite or restate
the thoughts or idea in your own words based on
your understanding, but of course with proper
citation from the source because remember,
we’re just borrowing the idea here.
Understand?’’ “Yes ma’am!”

“But how do you paraphrase? I know you

already have basic knowledge in paraphrasing,
right? So how do you paraphrase? What are the
step by step procedures that you are doing in
order for you to paraphrase a statement or
passage for example?” (Student will raise their hands)
“Yes___?” “First, I will read the whole passage. Second, I
will get the main thought or idea. Third, I will
take note all the supporting details, and lastly, I
will rewrite the passage based on how I
understand the text.”
“Very good! Thank you, you make take your
seat. Okay, in paraphrasing, we have guidelines
to follow in order for us to paraphrase the
statement properly and correctly.”
“So here are the guidelines in paraphrasing.”
1. Read the passage carefully
“First of course, we need to read the whole
passage carefully so that we’ll be able to
understand the text.”
2. Identify the main ideas of the passage
“Second, you have to ask yourself what is the
text all about.”
3. Identify important words or phrases
“Third, look for the keywords or phrases that
supports the main idea of the text and lastly,”
4. Put the main points in your own words.

“Now let’s have the methods on how to

paraphrase effectively.”
“Take a look at this example”
1. a. "It can be difficult to choose a suitable
place to study English."

Paraphrased statement:
"It is sometimes hard to select an appropriate
place to learn English."

“What did you notice?” (Student will raise their hands)

“Yes____?” “ Some words are changed into its synonyms”
“Exactly! and that is our method no. 1”
Method 1: Use different vocabulary with
the same meaning
“Okay, so this is the most common method the
students are doing in paraphrasing, but
sometimes can be difficult because you need to
have a wider collection of vocabularies in your
mind, right. And not all the synonyms of the
words are relevant or suitable in your
paraphrased statement.”

“How about this following statements, what did

you notice?”
2. "Writing essays can be a challenging task.”
Paraphrased statement:
"Writing essays can be a task which is
challenging." (Student will raise their hands)
“Yes___? “The order of some words are changed”
“Alright very good, and that’s method no. 2.”
Method 2: Change the order of words
“This is much easier than looking for the
synonyms because the words are still the same,
you will just rearrange the words in this method,
but the challenge is to decide what phrase or
words you will move or need to move.”

“Next example,”
3. "The most effective way to build your English
skill is to study regularly."
Paraphrased statement:
"The most effective way of building your
English skill is to do studying on a regular
basis."
“Okay what did you notice? What is the
difference between those highlighted words?” (Student will raise their hands)
“Yes____?” “To build is to- infinitive + base form of the
verb while building is present tense continuous
or verb + ing, same with to study and studying.
The word regular is adjective while regularly is
adverb.”
“Very good! So what do you think is method
no.3?” “Method 3 is to change the grammatical
structure of some words.”
“Exactly! Thank you. So method no. 3 and the
last method is...”
Method 3: Use Different Grammar
“Okay you can change the grammar of some
words but make sure it will give the same
thought or idea.”

“Okay so those are the guidelines and methods

in paraphrasing.”
(Student will raise their hands)
“What are the three methods again? “The three methods are:
Method 1: Use different vocabulary with the
“Yes__?”
same meaning
Method 2: Change the order of words
Method 3: Use different grammar”
“Very good! Okay so do you have any questions
“None”
about these?”

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

E. Valuing
“Alright so if you don’t have any question, I will
be the one to ask a question.”

“Why do you think we need to paraphrase and

why is it important in attributing sources?” (students raise their hands)
“We need to paraphrase for us to show our
readers how we understand the passage or text
and it is important to avoid plagiarism.”
“Exactly!”
