:Join us as we unveil the beauty that the region of Davao holds featuring, not only for its picturesque landscapes and lively culture and traditions, but most of all its classic literature. :Being a melting pot home to different ethnic groups including Cebuanos, Boholanos, and Ilonggos which are the majority groups and smaller communities of Maguindanaos, Maranaos, Manobos, T'bolis, Bagobos, B'laans, Samals, and Agtas, Ilocanos, Tagalogs, Warays, and Bicolanos, it is where their various rich and dynamic cultures arise. :Primary products that contribute in their livelihood include rice, corn, coffee, fish, timber, root crops, livestock, poultry, fruits and vegetables. :Moreover, mineral resources include copper, nickel, chromite, gold and marble :If there’s any chance that you’ll go to this place, make sure not to miss visiting:A year won’t be complete in Davao if t Mt. Apo, Philippine Eagle Nature Center, and Orchid Farms A year won’t be complete if they weren’t able to celebrate the “Kadayawan sa Dabaw” which is known to be a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture and history, the bounties of harvest, and serenity of living. :in addition, it showcases Mindanao’s arts and culture heritage where major street is colorful and lively set with tribal dances and music with the “Indak indak sa Kadalanan” wherein there is a spectacle of graceful performers in ethnic-inspired garments, and the Floral Float Parade that features floral and agricultural bounties. :As we all know, modernization phase out the true spirit of Christmas, but here in Davao Region, they celebrate Pasko Fiesta sa Davao which showcases festive lightings and array of decorations exposing the community’s creativity and talents while keeping alive the Christmas traditions. :Since, you already had a glimpse on how colorful their tradition and culture was and how they manage to maintain it even at this point in time where modernization flourishes. :Now, I’d love to share to you how rich their literature was that mirrors most of the timely issues in the society. :One of the known literary text in the region is the “Bago Aplaya” written by the one and only Macario Tiu who is an accomplished historian and sociopolitical critic. :This poem is considered one of the local classics which if often taught in college literature subjects in local universities :The title establishes its narrative setting in the south of Davao city, the Bago Aplaya area which is a seaside area, home to small time fishermen who make a living out of the Davao gulf. It is considered to be less urbanized than central and northern Davao :Since, the first person pro noun is used, it exposes the persona as the character in the story. Furthermore, the original ”ta’ (shortened ‘kita’), also establishes the presence of an addressee, who is therefore, also a character in the story. :Establishing the poem’s seaside setting describing the movement of the waves and tide, the poem begins with what may be called the poem’s refrain, ‘hinay ang tapya sa balod, ug nagsugod na ang taob,’ :The second stanza tells a story about a motor powered boat being given which then got its Catholic blessing by a priest, and the fishermen are gathered to celebrate the ceremony. :Thus, indicating to the reader that this is a narrative poem as Macario Tiu has always been more of a storyteller than a poet. :Then, in the next stanza, the persona shows his sympathy for the fishermen’s happiness because of their new boat. :The poem then sustains the change in mood in the fifth stanza, where the persona expresses feeling not just misery, but endless misery. This misery the persona describes is described in this line ‘brought by the waves.’ :What could this misery be? This part is best appreciated if one considers the sound of the waves as a resemblance of sighing. Sighing, as we all know is closely associated with negative thoughts such as regret and sadness. And so, like the ceaseless sighing of waves, mankind sigh and suffer perpetually. :Perhaps, we can speculate that the persona realizes the suffering of the poor and small-time fishermen due to poverty. :The poem clearly establish the life of fishermen - who were delighted with their new modernized boat, however is sad with the fact that they don’t know where the tide will bring them. :Though they already have new boats, still, they weren’t certain if they could still go back to their families once the tide rise and the waves go against them. :Another literature is the love in the cornhusks written by Aida L. Rivera, it revolves around a short story about a woman named tina who is from a Bagobo tribe. She portrays as a woman who has a child to a man named Amado which is her first love. Inferiority,to her long distance love life where its setting is in it cornhusks. :the established criticism was feminism all throughout the story :It establishes the strength of everly role of the women in the story especially the woman in Love in the Cornhusks , Tinang who had reach at least grade school and was a woman of consciousness , who always thought of what others will say about her. She is a kind-hearted and loving mother. It is assaulted the intolerance of being a woman. : Aside from that, Senorita addresses the line “ it is not good to be married,” for identifying what kind of a woman she became after marriage or how she looks like worn out unlike before that she has many suitors. : She had received a letter from Amado. The letter indicates that the reasons why Amado did not meet up with Tina due to his mother’s death. : There she felt that she did not lose his lover, he’s still there waiting for her but now, she had already husband and kids. But somehow tina remembered her past childhood together with Amado that makes her somehow sad : The ending of the story makes it sad for the past lovers who did not end up being together.
:After witnessing the beauty of region 11 let us all move into the Region 12 which is, :A utopia in its modest version where communities are a mixture of old and new, where tribal groups live harmoniously with urban folks and where traditions and cultures are celebrated all-year-round. :Instead of towering buildings and other modern edifices, the region boasts of its mountains, free flowing waterfalls and springs, captivating lakes, pristine white sand beaches as well as well-preserved culture and traditions of local tribal communities. :Producing globally competitive human resources and agro-industrial and fishery products, :Region XII is indeed socially and environmentally livable with sustained natural resources. :The region is composed of North and South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, Kidapawan City and Koronadal City, each with pristine wonders and promising great adventures.
:SOCCSKSARGEN will also prove us that their culture can meet the adventure. :Region 12 unfolds its diverse travel offerings for beginners in nature exploring, for lifetime enthusiasts, as well as for thrill and adventure seekers. :In this region, Mt. Apo rises majestically, at 10,311 feet above sea level. :It is the home to the almost extinct Philippine eagle and surrounded by moss-covered century-old trees, enchanting flora and fauna, sulfur craters and massive boulders, :the country’s highest mountain also boasts of a freshwater lake, Lake Venado, which is hidden in the mountain ranges, at an elevation of 7,200 feet above sea level. Its crystal waters mirror the twin peaks of Mt. Apo. :Region 12 offers a lot to promise from the beautifully woven fabric of the T’boli tribe called the T’nalak; :to the Sarangani’s cultural wealth which is the Maitum anthropomorphic jars and also the pristine lakes :One simple yet artistic way of understanding diversity is by witnessing the meaningful dances of indigenous tribes and seeing how these performances tell a story through songs. :It is a roadshow that intends to raise public awareness about the rich, diverse, dynamic, and colorful Mindanao cultural heritage, as well as to promote and encourage the preservation of Mindanao’s crafts and creative arts. :Highlight of the launch was the performance of Bayang Barrios, an artist known for her indigenous songs and music, which drew the crowd to performing a unity dance. :Despite the differences in their culture, the dancers shared the stage with one another making the overall performance burst with pride, joy, and smiles from one tribe to another. :Region 12 holds its charms in mostly unexplored, perhaps one of the best tracks to follow in the Philippines :Indeed region 12 has a lot to offer which includes the, :Richness of SOCCSKSARGEN’s literature which evolved side by side with the country's history together with its diversity :Literature builds nation and at the same time nation breeds the literature :Their literature is a diverse culture which unleashes the Muslim people’s culture and feature to the world :For the Muslims, literature’s significance in their lives helps preserve the richness and uniqueness of their respective cultural identities. :There are many more literary forms from the different places of region 12 which are preserved by the Muslims, themselves :The Indarapatra & Sulayman a famous mindanao epic is one of it which is written by Bartolome Del Valle :One of the famous and well-known authors in Mindanao who is also a poet, a teacher and a principal :Indarapatra & Sulayman, is a story of King Indarapatra and his brother Sulayman which represents that life consists of challenges, struggle, and circumstances which we may never expect to come. :Psychological criticism is the established criticism of this epic since it is the unique form of criticism that draws upon psychological theories in its interpretation of a text. :Wherein the monsters are created to represent the greater odds that man has faced in his life which is consists of vicissitudes that make up his daily challenges. :He becomes a weakling amidst the cosmic reality that permeates his fragile body. The suns ray for example causes harm to the skin when one is exposed to it unnecessarily. :Furthermore, natural calamities, diseases, and other elements that can cause havoc and destruction to lives and properties also include in the projection of these antagonists. The monsters may also represent tribal enemies. ● :SOCCSKSARGEN and Davao offers us a lot especially because they let their culture and literature take place since literature is the art of discovering something extraordinary about ordinary people and saying with ordinary words, something extraordinary.
