Rizal's Second Sojourn in Europe

Rizal left London in March 1889 to visit friends in Hong Kong and Japan. While in Hong Kong, nationalist groups like the Kidlat Club and Indios Bravos advocated for Filipino pride and nationalism. In Japan, Rizal was initially quarantined upon arrival in San Francisco before disembarking and staying in a hotel. He observed the industrious and polite nature of Japanese society. Sad news from the Philippines prompted Rizal to travel to Macau and Liverpool, where he encountered historical texts on the Philippines. He later received news in Paris that his book Noli Me Tangere had been banned in the Philippines.
