A Fight for Life

By Leah Me Dela Piña

A never-ending cycle of work – an aspect in life one can never take off. We work to live as we live
to work. Each day we give our very best and outmost commitment on the jobs we have – may it be as
someone working in an office, someone in a construction field, or even someone in the farming and
agricultural area. Yes, our very own farmers. If nurses do have syringes, teachers do have the pen and
book, farmers do their machete and their best friend – the carabao. Everyday they bring such things with
them to work. Thus, one can see farmers starting the day early. The earlier to work the earlier they can
settle thing out.
Farmers do not possess the luxury of time. Every second counts to them, time wasted is like life
wasted. It is not only for themselves that they tend to be out of time, rather the thought of providing each
of their own family is what farmers prioritize first.
One of these hardworking farmers is Manong Canor. He owns a little agricultural land. When the
world is still asleep, one cannot find him at bed on such time as he is already out in the fields doing the
arduous job. The earlier he starts, the earlier he finishes his tasks. Thus, he can still have time to be with
his family at the end of the day. It is not indeed an easy job – a job where one is so much exposed with
the striking heat of the sun. He can get all sorts of body pain and an ample amount of sweat in his body.
These all are simply nothing to Mang Canor as what matters to him is that he can be able to provide the
needs of his family. Hardwork begets good results. In fact, Mang Canor’s children were able to earn a
degree because of his arduous work.
People owe all the rice, fruit, vegetables, and all other products they are consuming to all the
hardworking farmers. Even if it is hot during the day as they cultivate the land, they never stop getting
things done because they all think about the families depending on them. Some of them might even got
sick due to that stressful task, yet for them no illness could hinder the works of our very own farmers. For
farmers the land, that very soil is what life is all about. They take care of it as if it is some precious jewel.
What will life be without the presence of the farmers? Who will be there cultivating the gifts
mother earth has bestowed humanity? Will life still be the same as what we have today?
We will all be nothing without them. If it wasn’t for the dedication that farmers gave to their work,
we will all starve to death.
Farmers are also one of the modern-day heroes. That is why we should be grateful for all the
things the agricultural industry is providing us. Let us not forget to acknowledge their everyday labors and
sacrifices just to provide people the food that we have in our tables. Not all of us could withstand the
hardships of farming. It may not be some a classy job with all the suits and uniforms, but it is a decent job
– a life-giving job.
