Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of more than 20 successive settlements in Jericho, the first of which dates back 11,000 years
(9000 BCE),[8][9] almost to the very beginning of the Holocene epoch of the Earth's history.[10][11]
Jericho is described in the Hebrew Bible as the "City of Palm Trees". Copious springs in and around the city attracted human habitation for
thousands of years.
Çatalhöyük (Çatal Höyük and Çatal Hüyük; çatal is Turkish for "fork", höyük for
"mound") was a very large Neolithic andChalcolithic proto-city settlement in
southern Anatolia, which existed from approximately 7500 BC to 5700 BC, and
flourished around 7000 BC.[1] It is the largest and best-preserved Neolithic site
found to date. In July 2012, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
