Report On IEEE Standard 6 Bus System Power Load Flow

1) The document analyzes and summarizes the results of running power flow simulations on the IEEE 6 bus test system using PSSE software. 2) Five cases are examined where different loads are applied to buses 5 and 2, and in one case a fixed shunt capacitor is added to bus 5 to correct an undervoltage issue. 3) The final case examines integrating a wind generator at bus 4, which helps stabilize the system compared to the pre-integration results.

Report on IEEE Standard 6 bus System Power Load Flow

Submitted to: Dr. Faisal Nadeem

Department of Electrical Engineering , UET Taxila

Case 1

Our task was to analyze the power flow using PSSE software . I took the standard IEEE 6 Bus system and applied all required
data given in data sheet of IEEE 6 Bus system .The schematic diagram of IEEE Standard 6 bus system is given by

Bus 1 is Slack bus

Bus 2 and bus 3 are Power generation buses or PV buses

Bus 4, Bus 5 and Bus 6 are PQ buses

All other required data is given by network Data sheet

The bus voltage limit specified in range from 0.950 to 1.05 v.

After applying all values of IEEE standard 6 bus system the power flow results is given below
From above Figure we can analyze the power flow from buses to buses and through line .

Case 2
In next case ,at bus 5 , I made changes in P load and Q load from 40 MW and 15MVAR to 80 MW and 20 MVAR respectively
as a results the bus 5 voltage (Vbus pu reduced from 0.950 to 0.9475 ) and it violated the V min Bus limits which was
0.950 so its colour changed into green. and for line rating I set the limit for Loading at 100%.But when I changes load on Bus
5 ,the Line rating also changed as Vbus changed on bus 5 and it violates the line limits also so as a results its colour also
changes into red as shown in fig.

By changing load values on bus it not means that it will affect the bus 5 values only when we compared or see results it is
clear that whole system affects by changing load values on any bus and lines also affected too which is cleared from above
two figures results.
Case 3

Now this time I made changes in at Bus 2 ,I changesd load P load= 20MW and Q load= 100 and
due to these changes bus 1 and Bus 6 line rating exceeds its limits and turned into red coloras
shown in figure.

It is worth noted that I applied the Fixed Slope Decoupled Method for Power flow .

COMPARSION Table

CASE 1

Bus No. Line Pin(MW) Qin(MVAR) Pout(MW) Qout(MVAR) Ploss(MW) Qloss(MVAR) Generation(MW

1 1-2 59.5 11 42.5 10.7 1.9 59.5

1-6 17.5
2 2-5 36.5 4.6 10
2-3
3 3-4 30 5.2 30 0 0.6 30
3-2
4 4-5 30.2 0 17 1 20
4-3
5 5-4 16.5 18.7 2.3 1.4
5-4

6 6-2 40.3 12.6 10.3 2.6
6-5

CASE 2

At bus 5 ,I Put P =80 MW AND Q =20 MVAR

Bus line Pin Qin(MVAR) Pout(MW) Qout(MVAR) Ploss(MW) Qloss(MVAR) Generation() Load Voltage
No. (MW) data pu
1 106 11.7 106 11.6 106 1.05
2 64 40 33.5 26.9 3.3 30.5MW
3 30 5.3 30 0 .5 0 30 1.05
4 36.1 0 36.2 32.8 2.4 7.7 20 1.05
5 94 28.2 0 8.2 20 20Mvar
6 60.5 10 30.5 0 30 10 10Mvar

Case 3

Bus No line Pin Qin Pout Qout Ploss Qloss Generation Load Voltage pu
MW MVAR MW MVAR MW Mw data
1 106.6 11.7 106 11.6 .1 .1 106.1 1.05
2 64 46.9 26.9 30.5Mvar 1.05
3 30 5.2 30 0 0.5 30MW 1.05

5 96.3 28.2 8.2 94.1MW 20 20MVAR .9396
6 60.5 10 30.5 30 10MVAR 30MW .9754

We can see from the table that by applying different loads on bus 5 the whole system values
changed as shown in above table
Case 4
In case 3 ,bus 5 voltages goes into undervoltage condition and so as a result bus 5 become
faulted and turned into green. To overcome this Problem I Added Fixed Shunt Capacitor of
Rating B=35 Mvar .It boosts the bus voltages from 0.9065 pu to 0.9584 pu as shown in Figure
below

It changed not only the bus voltages but changes other parameters too

Before CAPACITOR

After Capacitor
This case was only for Bus voltages Correction .

Case 5
Now next task is the integration of Wind Generator into Power system .In this task I added
Wind Generator at bus 4

Wind Generator Data

P gen 20 MW

P max 30 MW

P min 10 MW

Power Factor 0.75

Sched Voltages 1.05 Pu

Before wind Integration into system at Bus 4 ,following results obtained as shown in below
And when I integrated wind Generator into system at Bus 4 of data which is given above then
these results obtained

As we can see from results that the system gains stability when we integrated wind generator
system which was unstable .
