Laboratory Exercise
User Interface Development
Objectives:

At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:

 Identify different toolkits for user interface development; and


 Select toolkits and development frameworks applicable in creating applications.

Materials:

 One (1) personal computer with a pre-installed Snipping, latest version of NetBeans IDE and Java
Development Kit (JDK) 8
 Internet connection

Instructions:

1. Create a new document in Microsoft Word with the name format 06LAB_LastName_FirstName (ex.
06LAB_Reyes_Mika). This will serve as your answer sheet and will be collected by your instructor.

2. Open Google Chrome and log on to your eLMS account. Go to 06 User Interface Development > 06
Demonstration 1.

3. Re-examine the program that you created during the demonstration and answer the following questions:
a. On what specific part of the program were the java.awt and javax.swing packages used?
Explain how. (Essay: 15 points)
b. On what specific part of the program was the java.awt.event package used? Explain how.
(Essay: 15 points)

4. In line with the concept of the program that you created (a program that generates IP address), search
for at least one (1) framework that can be used in creating the same program. Explain how you will
implement the framework. (Essay: 15 points)

5. After re-examining the program and finding another suitable framework, search for at least five (5)
mobile user interface (UI) toolkits which are not included in 06 Handout 1. Provide the following details
for each toolkit:
a. Toolkit name (3 points)
b. Toolkit creator/developer (2 points)
c. Short toolkit description (5 points)
d. Base on your understanding, how will this toolkit help developers and designers create a better
user interface? Cite some examples, if possible. (Essay: 15 points)

6. Access your eLMS account. Go to 06 User Interface Development > 06 Laboratory Exercise 1
Dropbox. Attach a PDF file of your answer sheet.
