“Thick and Thin”

by Lany

Late night
Your eyes fell to the floor
I'm trying to make sense
But you're losing your patience
Hands talk, won't stop
We go to war
In the heat of the moment
You think that we're broken

I could see my whole life with you baby

Now you got me thinking that I'm crazy
'Cause you're

Out the door

Just one mistake
You say you're not in love no more
But was it really love
If you can leave me for
Something so innocent
Is this the end?
Thought you'd be there through thick and thin

Can't sleep, can't eat

My mind's a mess
What are you thinking?
You were happy last weekend
All the good times
How'd you forget?
I was your best friend, yeah
Remember when you said

You could see your whole life with me baby

Now you got me thinking that I'm crazy
'Cause you're

Out the door

Just one mistake
You say you're not in love no more
But was it really love
If you can leave me for
Something so innocent
Is this the end?
Thought you'd be there through thick and thin
Thought you'd be there through thick and thin
Thought you'd be there through thick and thin
Thought you'd be there through thick and thin

Said you'd be there for me through everything

Said that you'd have my back with anything
Said you'd be there for me through everything
Said that you'd have my back with anything

Now you're out the door

Just one mistake
You say you're not in love no more
But was it really love
If you can leave me for
Something so innocent
Is this the end?
Thought you'd be there through thick and thin
Out the door
Just one mistake
You say you're not in love no more
But was it really love
If you can leave me for
Something so innocent
Is this the end?
Thought you'd be there through thick and thin

Said you'd be there for me through everything

Said that you'd have my back with anything
Said you'd be there for me through everything
Said that you'd have my back with anything
I. Chosen Song
“Thick and Thin” by Lany

change or end everything. The emotions are also expressed through
each lines of the lyrics that makes the listeners listen to.

III. Chosen Approach

The best critical approach for the song “Thick and Thin” by Lany is
biographical approach. The song itself talks about the author’s
experience with his past relationship, it shows how one mistake can
end relationship.

IV. Critique/Reaction/Review
The song “Thick and Thin” by Lany represents the experience of
the author with his past relationship. Each and every line of the lyrics
tells the story of the author and every emotion he wants to express
embodied to write the song that mirrors his past relationship. It can
easily be noticed that in the line “I could see my whole life with you,
baby”, the author himself assumed that they will be together through
thick and thin as it was their plans and promise to one another. The
heartbreaking lyrics of the song will make you feel the author’s pain
especially when you experience the same as the author.
This soundtrack is a song that perfectly introduces the storyline of
the author itself. According to the line “I’m trying to make sense but
you’re losing your patience, hands talk, won’t stop, we go to war”, the
author is trying to explain and make sense of everything that happened
but the other person chose not to listen and get angry. Also, the line
“Out the door just one mistake, you say you’re not in love no more, but
was it really love if you can leave me for something so innocent?”, the
author is trying to question how his past relationship can easily walk
out on him just because of a fight. Clearly, this is a perfect soundtrack
to a break-up as it’s uplifting enough to get you out of your room but
also reflective enough to cry to.

V. Explication
The song is all about a romantic relationship with someone that
easily turns into a break up because of a mistake. It talks about how
love could fade in an instant that will make you suffer from heartache
and grief.
The song started with the couple fighting late at night; the guy
made a mistake – one mistake, but the girl already wants to break up.
The girl left easily and the guy was left alone, questioning himself what
really happened. The guy can’t function properly with his life because
of the break up. He was thinking of how happy they were but it was all
gone in a snap. It all ends with the guy thinking how he believed the
girl that she would be there for him no matter happens.
It was all about happiness at the beginning that suddenly became
pain and sorrow because of an unexpected split up.
