Chapter 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter includes the summary of the salient findings of the study, the

formulated conclusion and the recommendations made in conformity with such

findings and conclusion.

Summary

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between socio-

economic status and socialization of senior high school students. The study made

used of descriptive-correlational as the research design. This research provided

Grade 11 and 12 students of Davao City National Highschool as the respondents

which can help to accumulate results for the study.

This study focuses only on the five (5) statements of the problem: (1)

demographic profile of the respondents in terms of (1.1) sex, (1.2) age and (1.3)

strand, (2) the respondents’ level of socio-economic status, (3) the respondents’ level

of socialization, (4) significant difference in socio-economic status when grouped

according to demographic profile, (5) ) significant difference in socialization when

grouped according to demographic profile self-efficacy and academic performance

and the (6) significant relationship between socio-economic status and socialization.

The researchers found out that:

1. The demographic profile of the respondents revealed that both males (50%)

and females (50%) have an equal number of respondents. Most of the

respondents are aged 17-18 years old (80%), followed by 16-15 years old
66

(12%), 19-20 years old (4%) and 21-22 years old (4%). The study also found

out that most of the respondents are from the Technical Vocational Livelihood

strand (34%) followed by Accountancy and Business Management (31%),

Humanities and Social Sciences (17%), Science, Technology, Engineering,

and Mathematics (14%) and Arts and Design (4%).

2. The level of socio-economic status among senior high school students

achieved an overall average mean of 2.32 interpreted as low- class.

3. The level of socialization among senior high students showed an overall mean

of 2.59 interpreted as fair.

4. There is no significant difference in socio-economic status when grouped

according to age and sex as indicated in its p-value more than 0.05; however,

significant difference is found in socio-economic status when grouped

according to strands, F(4,45) =4.34, p=.005. Post hoc test analysis revealed

that Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics students are more

statistically financially stable than Accountancy Business Management

F(4,45)=4.34, p=.019 and, Technical Vocational Livelihood students

F(4,45)=4.34, p=.003. However, there is no statistical significance found

between Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (p=.351),

Humanities and Social Sciences (p=.351) and Arts and Design students,

(p=.310).
67

5. The results showed that there is no significant difference in socialization when

grouped according to age, F(3,46)=.569, p=.639; sex, t(48)=.434, p=.666; and

strand, F(4,45)=1.92, p=.123, all three yielded a p-value of more than 0.05.

6. The results showed that there is no significant relationship found between

socialization and socio-economic status of senior high school students, r(49)

=.261, p=0.067.

Conclusion

This section presents the concluded results of the study. This shows the

following data gathered from the research. Based on the findings of the study, the

conclusion was drawn:

1. Majority of the respondents are aged 17-18 years old which is equally

composed of male and female and mostly from the Technical Vocational

Livelihood strand.

2. The level of socio-economic status among senior high school students is

low-class which implies that their parents have a low-monthly income which

is less than Php 7,890 per month or between Php 7,890 to Php 15,780 per

month.

3. The level of socialization among senior high schools is fair which shows that

even though they are capable to learn to be a member of a group or society

and incorporate new members into social groups they have tendencies to

long for belongingness and company.

68

4. There is no significant difference in socio-economic status when grouped

according to age and sex. This means that senior high school students have

a low monthly income level of socio-economic status regardless of age and

sex. However, it was found out that Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Mathematics students are more financially stable than Technical-

Vocational-Livelihood and Accountancy and Business Management

students. It was also revealed that there is no significance between Science,

Technology, Engineering and Mathematic, Humanities and Social Sciences

and Arts and Design strands.

5. There is no significant difference in socialization when grouped according

to age, sex and strand. This implies that senior high school students have

a fair level of socialization regardless of sex, age and strand.

6. There is no significant relationship between socio-economic status and

socialization of senior high school students which means the increase

socio-economic status may not necessarily mean the increase of

socialization as well or vice versa.

Recommendation

Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are

given:

1. Teachers may conduct orientations to parents about financial management

literacy to provide them ideas regarding proper financial management.

69

2. Teachers and guidance counselors may develop socially appropriate

activities/programs to improve the socialization skills of senior high school

students. Students may also engage in various clubs and activities which

can promote the improvement of their socialization skills.

3. Teachers may conduct orientations about proper financial management to

the parents of the Technical Vocational Livelihood, Accountancy and

Business Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Arts and

Designs students to improve their socio-economic status. Teachers may

also promote an environment where socio-economic status does not

matter.

4. The future researchers, may consider conducting a qualitative or mix-

method version of the current study focusing on discovering the realities of

students with low-class socio-economic status.
