This movie tells that the two teenagers are possible to fall in love with each other
despite of their dissimilar personalities. This movie was told by first person voice which
is Landon Carter. Its title comes from the near end of the books saying “In every way, a
walk to remember”. Although this movie mostly shows fictional, Sparks wrote the story
of movie with his inspiration based by the experiences of his sister Danielle Sparks
Lewis.
In North Carolina especially in Beaufort, a prank on a guy goes wrong and puts
the student in the clinic. Carter, a famous student with no plans for the future, is held
responsible and forced to join in after-school community service activities as
consequence, which include starring as the lead in the play. And participating in these
activities in Jamie Sullivan, the minister’s daughter who has a great ambitions and
nothing in common with Landon. When Landon decides he wants to take his activities
seriously, he asks Jamie for help and begins to spend most of his time with her. But he
starts to like her, which he did not expect to do. Their relationship, much to the chagrin
of Landon’s old popular friends and Jamie’s strict reverend father. But when a heart-
breaking secret becomes known that puts their relationship to the test, it is then that
Landon and Jamie realize the true meaning of love and fate.
From watching this movie, I noticed that the plot was conspicuous that made the
entire story became entertaining to the watchers. It was easily for me to picture the
scenes along with its all action in a vivid way because it has the plausible storyline.
Situations showed that deals in the movie were very believable. Why they didn’t insert
some supernatural occurrences? The setting was also interested because the movie
was shooting in 1958 in Beaufort, North Carolina. Time and place was very imaginable
and easy to picture in my mind because it composed different events that being
occurred, the way the characters acted, and the aura of the environment. And also, the
characters in the movie seemed very real and perceptible. Even they are different in
descriptions, word choice and other various actions, they still became palpable and
original in their own ways. They had done their job great and the author made this
movie is understandable by the audience as if they really existed. I deeply loved the
Nicolas Sparks’ work, and after watching this movie, I started to use his style of writing.
A Walk to Remember tells the story between the two people which have the
different worlds. Landon Carter is a 17 years old senior student that belongs to a very
high class and rich family, and his father is a congressman in the United States. Jamie
Sullivan is the daughter of the minister that likely to wear old sweaters and plaid skirts.
She always brings a bible wherever she goes, and she believes that his life is according
to the plan of God. At first, Landon is not really interested in Jamie because he feels
that she is extremely religious and not the type of girl for him. His perspective of who
she is changes after a week of events. Such as him being forced to take her to senior
prom, having to work with her in the town play, and getting to see what her life is like
outside of school. After realizing his misjudgements about her, Landon falls deeply in
love with Jamie and she then returns those feelings. Later in the story, Landon is struck
with the terrible news that Jamie has leukaemia and is slowly passing on. Realizing that
he doesn’t have much time left with her, Landon proposes to Jamie, and they get
married. Pain and sorrow lie ahead with the death of Jamie Sullivan a few months after
her marriage, changing Landon Carter’s life forever. Their story, though filled with twists
and turns, is unforgettable and shows that through love & support, anyone can go
through any obstacle that comes forth.
