1. What is the acceleration of a proton moving with a speed of 9.

4. A proton moving with a speed of 2.0 x 106 m/s enters perpendicularly into a

(Mass of proton = 1.66 x 10-27 kg and the charge of proton = 1.6 x 10-19 C)

5. A narrow beam of positive ions travelling in a uniform magnetic field of 0.454 T


and deflected in a semi circular path as shown below. The speed of the beam is
1.4 x 105 m/s.

a) Show the direction of the magnetic field [out of the page]


b) Calculate the diameter of the circular path if the mass of proton = 1.66 x 10 -27
kg and the charge of proton = 1.6 x 10-19 C.[ans :6.399 x 10-3m]

T. Find the force exerted on a 2.25 m length of wire. [ans: 3.26 N]
8. A 0.45 m copper rod with a mass of 0.17kg carries a current of 11A in the positive
x direction. What are magnitude and direction of the minimum magnetic field

9. A rectangular loop of 200 turns is 22cm wide and 16 cm high. What is the current
in this loop if the maximum torque in a field of 0.45T is 23 N.m? [ans: 7.3 A]

10. A single circular loop of radius 0.23m carries a current of 2.6 A in a magnetic field
of 0.95 T. What is the maximum torque exerted on this loop? [ans: 0.42 N.m]

11. A wire of length 100cm is shape in to a circular shape carries a current of 3 A in a


magnetic field of 0.85 T. (a) What is the maximum torque exerted on this loop.
(b) If the same wire is shape in to a square, calculate the maximum torque
exerted on the loop if the current and the magnetic field is unchanged.

14. Calculate the magnitude of the magnetic at a point A which is 2cm to the right of

20. The maximum current in a superconducting selenoid can be as large as 3.75kA. If


the number of turns per meter in such selenoid is 3250, what is the magnitude of

21. You are needed to construct a selenoid of 55cm long using a plastic tube of 12
cm diameter. The selenoid carries a curent of 2.0 A and produces a magnetic
field of 0.85 T. Calculate the total length of wire needed to carry out this project.
