LEARNING CONTRACT

Clinical Area of Interest: The clinical area of interest that I am focusing to study is Chemical

Burns where I shall be identifying causes of chemical burns, symptoms of chemical burns,

diagnosis of chemical burns and treatment of chemical burns. The implication of my learning

contract is to enhance my nursing skills and assist in the burns specialist unit. The objectives of

this learning contract will help me to become a well qualified nurse who can serve the patients in

an effective manner. It is important for me to set the goals and objectives associated with this

area so that I can learn well and assist well to treat the burn affected patients.

Learning Objectives

i) I will learn all the key areas associated with burn associated with Chemical burns. I

will also study the alternative measures that can be offered to the patients to relive

them from the burns immediately. As being a nurse it will be my responsibility to

make the patient comfortable and relived from the pain as soon as possible.

ii) I will learn and practice the documentation as per Australian setting as it is one of the

important skill to be learnt in Nursing. It will provide the necessary information to the

healthcare staff about patients and they will continue to take good care of their health.

iii) I will also learn to review the Glasgow Coma Scale Monitoring which provides a

practical method of recording the conscious state of a person for initial and

subsequent evaluation. Also I will learn the correct method of giving the scoring to

the patients which will depend on the severity of the problem they have.
Exploration of Resources

 Human Resources: I will seek help from my educators, Australian registered nurses and

IHM staff. They will also provide me with the necessary information about nursing

measures which are used in Australian Hospitals to treat the people.

 Printed Library Books: Being a member of Parramatta Library I have the access to

study and borrow the books and journals related to Chemical Burns

 Online Resources: I can access Online Journals from PubMed and other websites related

to Burn and Patient care. Few links through which I will study have been given below:

Clinical Project

My Clinical Project is focused on Chemical Burns where I shall be identifying details of

Chemical burns and treatment of chemical burns which are used in Australian Clinical Setting.

Learning Activities

 I will attend the classes regularly and gather as much information as I can and also getn

answers for my queries from the instructors.

 I will try to explore the information from online journals published by various scholars.

 Most Importantly I will do an independent study to explore Chemical Burns and its

causes and treatments.


Time Frame: I will finish this project in 8 weeks of interactive discussion in the classroom and

learning
