IOT Based Smart Agriculture Monitoring and Controlling With Android App

The document discusses an IOT-based smart agriculture system using sensors, Arduino, and an Android app. Key sensors discussed are soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and light sensors. The system monitors these conditions and automatically controls irrigation when needed. It allows optimizing water use and monitoring irrigation remotely via an app, with benefits of lower costs and higher profits for farmers. However, it may reduce unskilled labor and require farmers to gain awareness of the new technologies.

What is IOT?

▪ IOT is short for Internet of Things

▪ The Internet of Things(IOT) is inter-networking of physical devices.
▪ This system has ability to transfer data over a network without requiring
human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.
▪ This is a growing mega trend that will influence everything from
businesses to our daily personal lives.
▪ Here we are mainly focussing on agriculture as it plays a vital role in
development of our country’s economy.
IOT APPLICATIONS IN AGRICULTURE

➢Out of various applications the main among them are monitoring of

▪ Soil moisture
▪ Temperature
▪ Humidity
▪ Light
▪ Automatic irrigation system
Sensors used

1. Soil Moisture sensor:

▪ Use: To measure the moisture content of
the soil.
▪ Copper electrodes are used to sense the
moisture content of soil.
2. Temperature sensor :
▪ The temperature reading will be taken at
different weather conditions.
3. Humidity sensor :
▪ Humidity sensors work by detecting GGG

or temperature in the air.

4.Light sensor:
▪ A Light Sensor is a device that
detects light.
▪ It generates an output signal that is
proportional to the intensity of light.
Arduino

▪ It is an open-source platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software

▪ Arduino board designs use a variety of microprocessors and controllers in
system
▪ To read inputs - light on a sensor
▪ To twitter message - and turn it into an output - activating a motor
▪ Turning on an LED
▪ GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications
▪ GSM supports outgoing and incoming voice calls, Simple Message System
(SMS or text messaging), and data communication .
Working

▪ If soil moisture content is greater than a fixed value, then there is no

need of irrigation
▪ If the soil moisture content is less than a fixed value, then start
irrigation.
▪ If the water reaches the prescribed point of water level, then sensor
gives data to system to stop the irrigation.
▪ Command sends to Relay Module.
▪ Arduino give command ON/OFF to relay .
▪ Relays are switches that open and close Motors Based on Command
of Arduino.
➢Advantages ➢ Disadvantages
▪ Cost effective method . ▪ Lesser Employment of Manual
Staff or unskilled workers.
▪ Optimize water use.
▪ Awareness of Indian farmer for
▪ Irrigation system can be this technology.
monitored .
▪ Profit to farmers.
